Because the price of a high flowing cat is just a tad more than a straight piece of tubing, especially when you have two of them to replace

I'll give you that, but if you can't get a warrant without one, it'll make after market CATs a better option :)

yeah thats why I did that too...
all my exhaust is modular, it means that if I'm really short on cash I can do things in steps.

I might keep the cat in, I hear you get boost issues when it's fairly free flowing :(
How much for those cats from Aussie, I couldn't see any prices? Anyone in NZ sell cats?

these days high flow cats dont restrict all that much - you might loose a handful of horses but at least your car will be legal ..

When i put my new full exhaust in , i had the cat re installed ..

they provide a silencing buffer that reduces drone in LARGE bore systems ( mines 3 inch from start to finish ) and you keep the butterlys and fluffy kittens happy ..

if you can afford it - do it - otherwise why bother ?

does the cat have to be in the factory position for wofs, for example in a gtt its in the downpipe which is a bit of a bitch to get to so could you wack one on after the flexi for wofs and then change it over once you've got it?

Update on our bolt-on 3" dump pipes for the caldin - we are expecting these to be available for sale in around 20-25 days time. Exact pricing will be confirmed then, so keep an eye on our website; www.drivenperformance.co.nz

As per usual, a toyspeed discount will of course apply to our loyal toyspeed customers!

Many thanks,

you guys know the cat is there to reduce harmful emissions right?

not to mention allowing your O2 sensor to heat up more rapidly, thus going into closed loop sooner and saving your gas bill ;)

the whole cat removal thing is a bit old fashioned in my opinion.

Yep, i blew the diff on my evo ( about $2500 worth of repairs ) and all i had was a aftermarket downpipe and no cat. Mechanical warranty wouldnt pay out because of this.

They claimed the reduction of restriction would cause the factory boost controller to not regulate boost properly which is true to a point.. but it was the freaken diff that broke! Would have broken even if it didnt have a few extra KW going through it.

Would these be a sufficient replacement to a catalytic converter?

it may make it a bit quieter(than not having anything... ie, not as quiet as having a CAT), but it wont stop any of the particulates that a CAT is meant to stop.
