AW11 4AGZE running poorly

Postby rollaholic » Wed Mar 12, 2008 7:03 am

well, a friend of mine has just finished converting her AW11 from auto to manual. i havent had anything to do with the conversion, or seen the car - but she tells me it has a poor idle, and that the S/C is not working so its extremely slow.

she suggested something to do with the inhibitor, but i was under the impression that just prevented the car from being started if it wasnt in park / neutral. a manual ECU was used also, but the loom has remained unchanged.

any ideas?

Best bet is to go through and recheck all the plugs are connected properly. Worst comes to worst go back to the auto ecu and wire up the neutral start switch to always be closed.

Why change the ecu?

If the AW11 gearbox is anything like my old AE82 one it will be a mechanical auto not electric. Gearbox only has 5 wires. Neutral start, overdrive, reverse lights and thats it.

check the fault codes
if something is stopping the s/c engaging theres a good chance it will throw a code

yeah, thats pretty much what i told her - check everything is plugged in, check codes. thought there might be something i didnt know about with manual conversions!

shes waffling on about changing the entire loom "to get rid of all the auto wires"

My bet is that the plug in, but the pins are in different locations.

Go back to the auto ECU.

you must have already bridged the neutral start sw as that has nothing to do with the ECU.

i dont know what she has done, have not even seen the car.

would be interesting to know how different the ecus are - i wouldnt expect the pinouts to be different if the plugs are the same? but i have no idea really.
