Why do you need gearbox oil?

Postby Lloyd » Mon Mar 17, 2008 6:30 pm

Because otherwise this happens:

There used to be teeth on the right. And although it doesn't look like it, there used to be teeth on the left too.

Evo VI, they need oil

Nah, levels were perfect. Minor issue with a seal...

Kinda pinched on assembly as the transfer case was going back on so instead of the oil being pumped back into the gearbox it ended up in the transfer case so it couldn't return, and eventually made its way out the breather and burnt off on the exhaust. Made it an hour and a half through the enduro, but that was all :(

The synchro doesn't move at all, there wasn't much noise at all, it just wouldn't go into 4th. Moved into every other gear perfectly but felt like 4th wasn't even there

Or this:

Doing about 85kph just came down from the bridge heading towards city, gearbox locked up and skidz from lane 3 to where the picture shows parked (facing the other way), while doing a left bend.

Found out the gearbox oil drain plug is missing since I left home in Glenfield. No warnings just locked straight away.

Suprisingly I saw Wildcard on the way down from the bridge, gave him a text and he snapped these pics and had a laugh (at me).
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Managed to finish Levels today. Fastest qualified being a cartain AE101 with a 2JZ in it that seemed strangely off the pace to start with? Matt? And didn't finish with what I've been lead to believe was diff issues, likewise with one of the Altezzas.

The bosses Evo managed to get smashed into by an ex aussie supercar AU at a reasonable rate of knots that caused a few minor issues. Managed to get back out and a Porsche spun and got a BMW into the side of it.... followed by a poor Evo into the back of the BMW :(

Managed to finish however, and even with the AU because it got brokened about 10 mins from the end of the 3 hours and we caught up the 6 laps it had made on us

Forgive the average pics, camera phone. Some of the damage on the front of the Falcon is from where it drove into the Evo (which was turning into pit lane before it got turned around by the Falcon) and the back is where it lost it down the far end. Didn't see it happen so don't know what the story was.
