What engine should go into stalkers AE??

Postby stalker » Tue Mar 18, 2008 7:04 pm

hmmm, well, Im stuck on what engine I should go for (if any...), so I thought id start this just to see what other people think and for ideas.

I could look for a black top 4age, and mod it. but what sort of power should I be realistically looking at once done. (yea yea I kno, how longs a piece of string) Or, should I look into going a turbo 4age or even supercharger??
I am kinda keen to stick with the 4age family (I do love my 4age's) instead of going for a full transplant of something like a 3sgte.

Im wanting to turn it into a show car, whilst still been able to take it to the drag strip and have fun with it! (the only time this car will ever sit on a trailer is if it brakes, or gets some work done to it without an engine! So no, its not going to be a full-on show car/trailer bish)

Any thoughts, or comments?

altezza engine+ drive train. duel VVTI beams 3SGE with 6 speed box.

140wkw is quite achievable with that engine, still retains the tangy n/a soundtrack, some people will probly still think its an n/a 4age.
you also get the option of a slick 6 speed gearbox and decent lsd choices, as well as loads more torque than a a 1600.

turbo engines don't suit cars like ae86 imo, as the sudden increase in torque as you come onto boost can easily overpower rear tyres, and you're limited with how wide you can take the tyres. also very hard to achieve stock reliability with a turbo engine.
the n/a engine has nice linear powerband and will be flexible for what ever you want to use it for.

or you can cheat and bust out the s2000 setup like american ian

seeing as you want to stay with 4age though, a standard blacktop will make up to 110wkw depending on tune, with some headwork and smart tuning you could get up to 125-130 i'd guess.
you'd be opening the engine for huge power with the 1600 though as the rods like to ventilate the block.

I voted stick with what you have, for now at least, just have fun in it. Look at changing when your bord of it. But you can't go past a snaking n/a manifold, they look awsome.

I need a budget before I can vote, as budget will usually determine how many options you realistically have 8)

hmmm good call about the budget....ummm I hadnt really thought of it I guess (very important detail I know), I was more thinking along the lines of decide what engine to go for, and then save/get the money once I know what im looking at.

Maybe go for a round figure of $5k...

Yea! Chuck in a 2K.

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Stick with what you got, 20v has plenty of power in RWD.
Just lighten the hell out of the rest of the car and give it the suspension from hell.

One question, (and please dont flame me for the nub question  ) if I was to stick with the NA 4age, would it be worth looking at getting a "black top" and then doing the usuals, cams, port and polish, trumpets etc, then put it into the car?
Ie. is there that much difference in the silver top compared to the black top?
