didnt realise they made them up to 1990, what engine does it have?

cheers

Narrow bodies were made between 1982 - 1987 and had 4G63 motors, very rare with a non turbo carb setup, most had 8v SOHC setups and then ones like mine had 12v DASH SOHC motors (same horsepower as twincam VR4 but the DASH motor had a smaller turbo  ) but these are extremely rare.
The Widebodies we made between 1987 - 1990, about 5 in NZ, but dime a dozen in america and europe. All had 4G67's (basically 2.6 4cyl van motor with a turbo, not particulary flash) but there were about 60 made with the DASH motor....

Also the starion is the most successful Japanese race car of all time, and only 2nd in the world behind the Porche 911, but the starion was only in production for 8 years, and the 911 been in production for decades! If you ever drive one or been in one they're an awesome car and would give mine up for anything!

4G67 is 1800cc DOHC man.. found in E35A Galants and the like. You're thinking of the 4G54, which is the same engine in L200 utes and aussie Sigmas/Magnas - the 4G54 was never in a van of any sort. If you get some decent parts for them (ie pistons, cam) they can make quite a bit of power, just in standard trim they are quite pathetic - the engine originates from the early 1970s.

I'm pretty sure there were more than 60 DASH powered Starions too. Also, the DASH made 200hp, the VR-4 made 220 (or 240 for the later ones), and the DASH runs higher psi factory than the VR-4 (I had a DASH powered Sigma, ran 14psi factory).

Yup know what you mean about the drive and the fun they are. I have a 1980 Eterna GSR which is mechanically the same as an early Starion, but it has an LSD though. Mine was the first Mitsubishi to have the 4G63 turbo.

Your right it's a 4G64, miskeyed  I like to call them van motors, cause my mates ones a joke and I give him heaps about it, factory they're not a great motor but have potential when you throw a bit of cash at them :P ....
There were more then 60 DASH powered narrowbody starions, but stuff all widebodies.
http://autospeed.com/cms/A_2071/article.html
DASH motors produced 147kw factory (mine only boosts at about 8psi with a TD05-12a only mod is a K&N and muffler) and the VR4's produced 151KW (with a slighty larger TD05 14b turbo & and extra cam and injectors etc)

No, 4G54, not 4G64. Last time I checked 151kW is more than 147kW. Also, the facelift late 89+ and RS/Evo models made 240hp on just 8psi. The SOHC still had less torque at the end of the day, and the throttle body injection was a major let down.

Dunno why yours is only boosting 8psi, my E15A Galant Sigma boosted 14psi and all of the others I know of boosted the same from factory.

thats a rather bold claim...... got some links? stats?

i would say things like the Escort, RS500, M3, FXGT etc etc would be ahead of the starion.....

That's most definitely a bizarre claim? Got a reference to back that up?

I would have thought the R32 GT-R would have been a more successful Japanese car, given it's home and Australian success, also the C10 GT-R and it's dominance of Japanese saloon car racing in the early 70's (49 unanswered victories!).

It's written all down in austarion somewhere, might have to search for that one. Basically for it's class it won touring car races all over the world, 24 hour races, rally in asia pacific and group A, there's a guy here in chch that still runs one that won his class last year (sure it was last year) in the touring cars... When they raced at bathurst, got 5th outright in 1987 and one year took the top 6 places in it's class....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Starion
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.stacey1/cb.html
That shows some of the victories.... I'll search out the other info later when I have sometime.

But you see most of those cars including the R2 GTR only raced in limited classes and mainly on the road. The reason they say the Starion is way up there cause they raced them in everything from Group A and N rally (they had a group b rally car but the class got banned the year they were to enter  ) Touring cars, endurance, and alsorts of other racing, there still quite a few successful ones out there still...

Oh and Snoozin Euro, nice wheels :D wish I had a selection like that!
