"Gold top" 3SGE

I'm looking around at Altezza RS200's at the moment, and I've seen three "Gold top" ones... only problem is that I can't find any reference to there ever being a gold top version, only a red top(single VVTI) and Black top(dual VVTI).

Can anyone explain it?

They don't look to be painted after market, and if so, three different cars two private(from different car lots) and one at a dealers, all with the same colour.

Having a quiet day at work today, I've googled around and no-one seems to have heard of them, other than some dude in butt $&#$% idaho who had bought one for his mr2...

The three cars I've seen were 2001 or 2002 RS200 with no further model naming(Z L etc).

They seem to feel/drive like a standard black top 3sge... so until I hear otherwise, I'll treat them as such.

Only differences are that I'm aware of are auto (200hp) and 6spd (210hp)

For altezza motors, that is.

will see if I can pop passed the dealers and have another squizz...

the private sales I've already passed on, so it would be a bit odd to ask for another look, take pics and not buy.

see if you can get the model and frame number

theres nothing obvious on the epc
other than a supercession from the early type, to the 01 type

I've been working at car yard many years, but never seen altezza with that cover and we imported them a lot. Looks like custom paint job to me, maybe it is a new trend?

did they maybe all have the same body kit on them?

its not uncommon for some dealers over there to have a package where they will have a bunch of cars with some accessories fitted and some different decals etc.

maybe a few dealers did a coupla hundred altezzas
