Like simon said - take the rad out and take it to a radiator shop, they can take the tanks of and check for blockages, running water through it can only do so much.

Last time I did that it cost me $30, and worked a treat, I had same symptoms as you. (I also did the heater/windows trick for a while, just note that when your motor gets hot the oil will start breaking down in temps its not designed for)

yep backflushing with water doesnt lift and flush the scale build up etc, as suggested above get it rodded by a shop is the only way to go

thermostat and radiator are the two most common faults limiting coolant flow. Itll be one or the other.

works real good, seemingly. and seeing as your car is overheating real bad, it would be proof that it dosn't work!!

his problem is not under bonnet temps

Water temperature has NOTHING to do with under bonnet temperature.
The only way the under bonnet temp. will affect water temp. is when the thermostat is either missing or jammed open.
Water temperature is controlled by thermostat and how well radiator works.
In his case the symptoms (temperature normalizes when interior heater is used) lead to conclude that the radiator is not working (blocked or lost all the fins).

the motor is over heating, it lives under a bonnet, there fore it is the cause of 'under bonnet temperature' 8) ....... should have used something to accent the sarcasm.

in say that, seeing as thermostatically controlled water keep the engine at a temperature, and that engine is also part of the source of actual under bonnet temperature, and if the engine is over heating to to ineffective water cooling, then sorry i believe water temperature has a lot to do with underbonnet temperature.

I lack sarcasm detector (sorry but we russians are not born with one). Anyway the overheating issue will not be fixed by decreasing under bonnet temp. The only thing you could do is keep the under bonnet temp below say -40'C, that way you will not need the radiator at all ;).
