Mitsi wasted park coils on 4AGZE

Postby Crampy » Wed Apr 02, 2008 10:15 pm

Hi all.
I was just wondering if I could just replace the stock 4AGZE wasted spark coils with some Mitsi ones. It's on a turbo motor running a Link V5.
Can I just cut the plugs off the old ones and connect up the Mitsi ones, or will I need to use the Mitsi ignitor (and Tach adaptor)?

Also, how much to the Mitsi coils go for normally?
Just did a search and see that all wasted spark Mitsi coil packs are the same as EVO ones, which is good to know. Don't need to pay extra for genuine EVO ones.

why you wanna change crampy? 4agze ones are plenty for 20psi, you'll need the ignitor as well if you get the mitsi coils. and need to do a bit of a rewire (not a problem for you)

Hey Brendon. I want to use my new MSD leads on it.
Seeing as I spent the money in the leads already, I was just wondering if I could just get the coils and chuck them on.

Will the ignitor not be able to handle the Mitsi coils? I haven't even looked to see what ignitor is in the car hehehe:)

depends on the ignitor really, its probably either running a mitsubishi 2 channel or a link two channel, in which case either should be able to handle the mitsi coils.
best place to get them is pickapart
PM me for anything autoelectrical, Info or jobs etc....

I binned the rubbish toyota coils on my 1ggte in favour of some diamante coils. i used the link 3 channel ignitor, and just changed the plugs over with no hassles.

Sweet, I figured as much.
I'll just have a hunt and see what ignitor it is using and then pop down to pickapart.

Cheers heaps guys.

I got my VR4 coils (including ignitor) for $60 from a wrecker in Hamilton, not sure if thats average or not since I paid $60 just for an ignitor not long before that from a different wrecker.

That sounds ok.
There have been some EVO coils on Trademe just recently. They want $100 for them. That was for just the coils, no plugs or ignitor. Seemed a bit steep to me.

Sounds like you got a much better deal.

Wreackers are a bit odd with their prices also. Pays to ask around.
I like Pick-A-Part, as they have a price list up and it doens't change from car to car. Also, sometimes they don't even know what the item is you're buying and charge you for something that's cheaper 8)

What do the 7mgte coils look like? The only reason why, is because I want to change the coils is because the 4AGZE ones have the gay little lead connectors and my MSD leads are the normal size ones. I want to use my MSD leads, as they cost me a bit and they're brand new.

No way man, those leads are awesome. I was going to use them in my FXGT, but have since changed plans, as you will now know.

Turns out the car has been set up with an EVO 3 ignitor.
So sweet, off to Pick-A-Part over the weekend to get some Mitsi coils.

The 7M ones are the "gay" sort as well - they push inside the coils and have an outer clip to hold them on. I'll try and find pictures:
