Is this guy for real or what?

Firstly, sorry to people who can't get on Trademe.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 66.htm?p=8

Supposely $20g spent on this car and all it looks like to me a stock 20 Valve head including plenum, intake pipe and AFM, which then has an intercooler pipe joined to it.
Now from memory, these plenums like to pop at around 5 psi or so. That doesn't make this a particularly realistic 11 sec car (as quoted by seller).

I'm loving the paint job too

Enjoy.

Typical Palmy type views on life, it appears to be running a stocker Subie turbo or something like that. Everything here is an easy 11s car, I remember some guy around here with an SW20 claiming to people once he got the screamer pipe and a Link in his car it was going to run 11s. It was still running a CT26 too, sucks to be one of those who upgraded to CT20B or better....

It should be good for 13s with some real sticky tires

where to start

the manifold wont last crap all
my car will cost abotu 22g all up, done, so i dont beleive him, i have surge tank and everything?
forged and HEAT coated pistons, - sure they get coated with alot of heat when running
bigger valve spring shims - hmm, probably to set clearances
heavily ported head with std cams, hmmm
link turbo system, or is that computer, and if computer, why retain the afm when you dont have to.
why make a "custom" long ratio box? they not that short to begin with.
needs turbo welded up, hmmm hope he means exhaust

12's not likely, needs alot before that happens, and especially not 11s

that is all from me

trademe guy wrote:* Link turbo system ($1000 boost controll system!)
* atm it needs . . . an ecu and ur away

so its got a $1000 link boost control system, but no ecu. hmm...

I could imagine spending 20k on it if you really tried, but it still needs a proper paint job (unless you want to keep that staunch look) and a link and those are probably the most expensive parts of the build apart from the car and engine...

lol

The evo 1 I had was the best road car I ever had.

But the most important thing with them is buy them and drive them,
don't stuff around with them.

Would buy another one as a road car if i had the cash.

I think I can guess what happened.
Wannbe 'boyracer' who has gained all of his extensive car knowledge from magazines and stickers. He has bought his mates '11sec' car thinking he can finish it with a $5 warehouse tool kit.
Realised he is over his head and decided to sell it. He still thinks its the best car ever....

More like he's a dreamer and thinks it's easy to slap a turbo on and do 11s. Haven't you heard, stock MR2 turbos can do 11-12s? Hahaha. (I overheard that at Meremere one day.)

I think with more and more street cars going faster and faster, the young dudes around think it must be easy to do the numbers. They don't realise the amount of money and work involved.

Hell even the pro guys are doing 8s and 7s easy now.

Easy, Yeah Right.

Takes a whole lot of work to get there and a poo load of money to stay competitive.

nobody appreciates it fully till they've been there and tried to do it themselves.

i gain more and more appreciation each time i put more effort/money into my race car. (and the f**ker isnt even running yet!) and gives you a different perspective to look at people project threads through. bazda, ih8tec, burning_angel & deaf rattle's projects immediately spring to mind

i wouldnt pay any more than 4 figures for that car... and it'd be at the lower end of the scale too.. :?
