Might be worth going down there just to see a 56 year old woman whip some considerably younger men. Pity they couldnt get her one of the old Group B cars for a bit of fun. Then I WOULD be there!

Yeah they always really put a heap of effort into getting top notch rally drivers out in really well prepared cars. & in the other rally events round the south they usually are out & about themselves.

Someone should get dunkerton back in a rally car, he was always a good driver to watch & very spirited driving in some of the underpowered cars.

& they've got a motorshow on the friday night this year instead of that god awful stage at forbury park, i swear its never warm out there ever!

Not only is she coming to compete in this years Otago Classic Rally in a Ford Escort.

She will be driving an ex works Audi Quattro Grp B in the tarmac special stage.

Heres an article from this mornings Otago Daily Times.

so why dosn't Malcom let her runit on gravel??

depends if we get an entry for the Vegas street sprint as to whether i'll be in Dunedin. would like to see Hawkeswoods new toy, and Paddon to have a good run down there.

Maybe he doesn't want to risk writing off what is undoubtedly a rare car in NZ?

or maybe he doesn't want to be shown up, after his driving of it?

But it'll be awesome to see her run, and even better in such a legendary car if even for only 1 stage.

Whats Hawkeswoods new toy?

Possibly because they would have to change the whole suspension over like they did back in the group B days? Or Just because it's SOOO mint  .

Audi Quattro GrB replica-ish.
formally LWB, with a heap of length removed, duck's nuts Audi motor and Subaru floorplan with gearbox rear diff attached. looks like it is entered under 'Rally Xtreme' due to it's pedigree (or lack thereof), but with a peddler like that pointing it, it should be good to see.

Still got an alloy cage in it as well?

I know that's why Brian Green's one never comes out to play.

Not just rare in NZ. Rare anywhere. I believe I read some reports that estimated the value at up to half a million dollars to the right buyer. So I guess, after an extensive, timely and costly rebuild he not only doesn't want it damaged but probably not too dirty either.

I imagine your 2nd comment is a bit tongue in cheek. Malcolm performed very well in this car, as did Brian, and is not the kind of person who'd be at all bothered by anyone, particularly an ex factory driver "showing him up"..
In fact Malcolm continues to perform well. I have him starting in the leading group of non NZRC competitors at next weeks championship opener and fully expect him to finish in or around the top ten overall.

I can remember reasonably clearly when alloy cages were banned and if I recall correctly it was quite some time before an Audi Quattro ever hit NZ shores.

You may have the better of me, but I didn't realise Brian had a Quattro of his own, rather that he used Malcolm's.
And I imagine if, in fact, Brian did own one, and had the urge to use it, the replacement of the roll cage would not have held him back.

^ Oh k, possibly me getting wires crossed? Definitely recall many a conversation with local rally/motorsport folk regarding Brian Green and a Quattro... and the fact it had an alloy cage (as per the works cars of the time) meant it was essentially unusable.

But yeah, I shouldn't speculate on what is effectively hearsay :)

IIRC Malcolm Stewart ran a privately entered Quattro in the 1985 International, running the LWB car and was nipping at the heels of the factory Sport Quattro's. I have it still, on VHS. :) So maybe not that long for one to hit NZ shores?

The initial link? It doesn't even mention the Quattro being fanged?

Unless the red X is something I'm missing?
