20v 4AGE M/T What are the Numbers on top of the ECU Please!!

Postby ADIKTD » Thu Apr 03, 2008 9:47 pm

Hi there,
Well, I have a FXGT AE101 with obviously a silvertop 4AGE in it and I was wondering what the numbers on the top of the ecu should be because well, long story cut short, Was driving along and all of a sudden lost power, had to pull over and get the AA (Gotta love em!) To tow a brother back home then arrange a towie (Free of charge - AA Gotta love em!) to tow me to a shop of my choice, I chose an auto sparkie even tho I dont know wtf is wrong with my car..

So I ring up to get some progress cos I'm worried about my baby and they said still doing tests but it could be the engine computer...

Questions:
Engine computer... There is only one computer aye?
What are the numbers on the top?
And pardon my ignorance but is my car a smallblock or a bigblock - I don't know the differance, oh and in the event my computer is poked.. anyone got one? :D

Cheers!
JOsh

very common problem with that particular model.
Have done quite a few now through work. ( auto sparkie)

Some are repairable some are not.

I have one for sale, and would take your old one as a part trade if you want.

How much? and how fast can you get it here? I know I can't afford the bill on this job!

What are the symptoms when the computer shit's itself?

Symptoms can be all sorts.

Check engine light is the best way to tell.

Light is not on when the key is on but the car is not running, = faulty ECU
No codes come out when the diagnostic connector is bridged, = Faulty ECU
Codes that are erratic or don't exist = faulty ECU
Scan tool wont communicate live data, = faulty ECU

Thats not all, but any or all of those are good indications.

If it's at an auto elec, and they cant find anythinbg else, then it probably is ECU.

Up untill we had our first faulty AE101 ECU, I would have bet $100 on any toyota that the ECU was not the problem, as have probably replaced over 1000 ECU's in the last 10 year, and less than 20 were Toyota's
All either AE101 20V's, or one's out of drowned hilux's.
So if that have not stuck it before it will be hard to believe it's a faulty toyota ECU.
