crazy 4age problem

Postby Mike- » Wed Apr 09, 2008 5:16 pm

the engine is a redtop tvis standard except for pod filter,

the problem reminds me of the audi guy who put sand in his intake, the engine bucks alot and doesnt idle,

i took the pod filter off and opened the butterfly valve and quite a bit of smoke came out the intake!
then i took the plugs out and turned it over by hand, it seemed fine
then took the cam cover off and the match marks on the cam pulleys are in the right place.

before this happened it was running good.

all i can think of is that something is blocking the exhaust but i cant see any potatoes or balloons.

nope the oil breather goes to nowhere,

the engine sounded like it was running on two cylinders and wouldnt idle at all, was hard to start (turned over ok but wouldnt fire). when i gave it gas it sounded really sick and violent.

Smoke came out the inlet when i took the pod off!

has anyone had this problem before??

valve timing might be right, but have you checked the spark timing? might be out a tooth or something?

did you check the crank timing mark as well - was the cambelt replaced or removed before the engine was put into the car? has it run previously or is this the first time you've tried to get it going?

lots of smoke in inlet manifold does not sound good.

dont worry about the light, just make sure it isnt a tooth out - when you're certain its correct, just move it back and forth and see where it runs best. no the most ideal way, but will tell you if its the timing or not.
