What a poor attitude. Its nothing to do with Toyspeed, its a realistic attitude - its a great event. The real/Japanese Superlap isn't about making special classes for n00bs.... its about building cars up to go as fast as they $&#$% car. Loving having an equivalent here :)

The day is about who goes the fastest, period. Same as in Japan. Stop with the moaning, if you're not fast enough, spend some more money, brush up on your skillz and go faster.

If you want regulation, go run in a proper race series. I love the Superlap concept.... come one, come all (to an extent, as the rules do exclude non-Japanese/Asian cars I believe) and winner takes all.

Not everyone has 100k to build a superlap car

I think there should be some sort of class's for this

No point entering if you do not stand a chacne of even competing

Y do they have a normal olympic's and a speacil olympics

To give evry1 a chance at getting some glory

Not just those who have a open cheque book

Well go and run your 10k car in the special olympics then. That's the dumbest analogy I've ever heard regarding the Superlap. Actually made me look kind of like this  If you were to analogise (is that even a word?) Olympics/Special Olympics with Superlap, you'd do one for for cars running perfectly, and one event for cars say, running on 3 out 4, 4 out of 6 or whatever cylinders, or with a flat left rear tyre. Because, everyone needs a chance.

sh*t, they should run a class in which I'll roll a standard 1986 Mazda Etude auto in it, with steelies on the front and mismatched alloys in the rear running retreaded Enduro's. Can I please have a class, because my car sucks but I want a chance at glory.

They don't run secondary classes in F1 for sh*t teams like Super Aguri so they can have a 'chance.' Superlap is pitched as the best... if you think you have what it takes, enter, but don't bitch and moan cos you either suck at spending money, building sweet cars, or driving, or all 3.

Edit for grammar!

Sweet you bring ya Entude, and ill roll in a 1982 Mirage with supershift givng me a grand total for 8 gear's

at least will be a fair race, as both vechiles will be equally shit, so results will come down to driving skill not the amount of money that has been spent on the vechile

hence the reason a1 gp is way more excitng to watch then f1

end of the day any monkey can build a quick $&#$% 4wd, they basically drive them selves choose where you want it to go and shoot

but as stated in another thread im a wanker, and i like to stir you all up

Do it then, i bet you my car you cant win superlap.

There are other events with classes, superlap is just for the fastest car outright.

if it was aimed at Joe Bloggs with an average as, slightly modded car, the entry would be $30 and any manner of sh!tboxes would turn up.

NZPC Superlap is purely to find the quickest cars in NZ. maybe they have found them, or maybe there are a few more that would dominate...who knows.
it would be quite interesting to see it run down south, with both an unlimited class as well as a street legal class. in one register alone, there are 2 GT-R's, a couple of EVO's and a nasty green KE70 that could be a contender, but there are also some stupidly quick road cars that could be up to the task in the right hands.

ahh, some people  point in shoot in a really fast powerful evo, i bet scootevo would disagree with you there, cause that thing would be a handful for most, lucky he's a good driver.

80% of the cars there were under 40k i'd say. most would be under 30K which is pretty cheap for a very well modded jappa, and there were a couple who'd be closer to 100 or more,

but at the end of the day it comes down to skill and reliability, not just having an ubber powerful car.

i should be at the next one, (if i'm not on course for work) and i dont' expect to be at the top, but i'm gonna try damn hard to beat as many people as i can thats for sure.

Yep, as with picking the braking point at 280kph then turning in safely and still quickly on one of the less forgiving corners in NZ :D

Haha yeah less noise, more glass, road legal tires, stuff stuff and more stuff. A "400kw" FD was doing 1:06s apparently, one of the quicker cars there.

BS you reckon...From what you are saying you mean the dude with the biggest check book wins.

As for comparing this event to Japanese events why would you do that the cars that enter those events are the length of street better and more developed than what we have here how could you compare the 2 its chalk and cheese.

FFS, the solution is this:

If you don't like the way Superlap is run, that's fine, don't enter, do something else instead. Complaining about it on Toyspeed isn't going to change sweet $&#$% all.

This whole argument is Vegemite vs Marmite, you might love Marmite and think Vegemite is shit and that the recipe should be changed so it tastes like Marmite (what the $&#$% is wrong with you??!). Not going to happen, at the end of the day, there's a shitload of people who love Vegemite, and it will continue to exist with or without your support.

Get over it, go buy some Marmite.

dude honestly

i once had the chance to drive a moderately modified GTR, might have been round the 280kw mark.

it scared the living daylights out of me, i wasnt even close to driving it at half its potential. any winner can put their foot down in a straight line, but people with the nerves to punt a 100k car or even a 30k car round a track on the edge has my respect, its not something anyone can do, 4wd or not.

fyi stirring people up and making them go  are two different things ;)

ROFL @ people saying "Person with biggest cheque book wins" as if Superlap is the first instance where this has been true in motorsport. :?

If my car was finished, and they'd let me, I'd take it to superlap....
Not gonna win any trophies, would probably be slowest of them all. (hence why they probably wouldnt let me  )
But would be a damn awesome day caning my car around on a track!

I think some people are forgetting that it's not a race at all, it's a lap shoot out - totally different.

And the cheque book racer technique applies to everything car based. You don't get "Top level" cars without money, and you can't draw spectators without "Top level" cars.

The only thing that annoys me is the shift from Taupo to Puke. Isn't the reason to be kind of like Japan superlap? Where you can compare times between years?

yip, and without the cheque-books, guys would still consider a 15 second 1/4 mile as quick.
so what if the top guys have spent drug money on modifications, you would get a decent hot-rod or show car without spending large sums either.
