in a way its kinda cool. a shitty attempt at a successor just means the originals will look even cooler by comparison :P

$&#$% sake, its not going to be an ae86, you could describe it as a car like an ae86 but it will not be a successor to the ae86.

And I don't see why people are saying its ugly as shit - it actually looks like quite a feasible concept car. The final result will of course look much differant - the sketch doesn't even have indicators. Compare the RX8 concept to the RX8 on the streets.

to be fair subarus engines have improved a lot since the legacy days, where i think a lot of their reputation comes from.

having said that, i do hate the annoying noise they make!

Basically from my opinion the 86 is the 86 just like the Aw11 is the AW11 and the SW20 is the SW20 they both have good and bad points i mean look at the differance....

So if you break it down sby make some damn fast little cars but damn their engines die easy toyota make some damn fast cars and they go rusty eventually... they all have good and bad points it just depends on whitch one you like!

OH and most of all Toyota nees to make a new WRC ar seriously way more cred if we trashed the WRc with some new upstart toyota needs to try again instead of impresssing the jap bussiness men!!!!

This is stupid, 110hp is going backwards, currently 4EFE puts out more out of 1.3. What it means that a 15 yo shit box starlet will outperform this "sports" car. Anyway Subaru does not know/or want to know how to produce power without turbo. Have you guys driven an n/a Legacy/Impreza under 2.5L? It is gutless.

The whole concept is stupid. Who will buy brand new "Spiritual Successor"?

The only real successor would be a 3SGE/2ZZGE powered 6speed +LSD, under 1000kg rear wheel drive 2dr Altezza based vehicle.
They can even make it look like a modernised AE86.
They could reuse all the Altezza bits and use newer body, minus all the useless crap that Altezzas come with.

That's a joke, right? My ex's 4EFE Starlet definitely had significantly less than 110hp, weighed less than my Alfa, and got significantly smoked by the Alfa, which had a dyno proven LESS than 110hp.

I think there is a case in point for a sub 900kg 1NZ-FE powered small sports car though! Hopped up 1NZ, close ratio 6spd and an LSD independent rear end in something the size of the current Yaris but a coupe, would be awesomely fun. Make sure it had a raucous-ish induction note, to enhance the amusement factor. Aim it at swift drives over tight hilly passes, instead of tyre smoking drift abuse.

And it must come standard with 14x7's with 0 offset on the front, and say, -15 on the rear.

I'll purchase one, and instantly remove the boxer engine, and replace it with abema 3s, so ill have the perfect combo

Yeah, sif it matters what engine it comes with... people will be ripping that POS out and putting something more fun in, the minute it comes out the gate.

I say 'flood the market' with lots of cheap, light RWD cars....

So long as the engine is in the right place, and the driven wheels are at the right end, someone'll sort the rest out.

My only concern would be that if the car was designed around a boxer motor, it might have a very low bonnet line, maybe not enough space for a lot of the more popular inline 4 engines....

beams 3S is a huuuge bitch.

But it is wrong kind of engine, which will screw all the chassis dynamics or whatever you call it, wrong size and position, will be problematic to replace with 4cyl in-line.

I like the look of it and think that the engine will be fine.

If they can pull if off for under 2M Yen(~$25k), it'd be awesome, and I'd certainly buy one over a Suzuki Swift.

and you could always turbo the biatch if you think that 110-130hp in a 1100kg car wasn't enough, even taking it to ~150hp would make it a lot of fun in such a light car.

I imagine the choice of the boxer is for a low centre of gravity, which if i'm correct means replacing with a non boxer engine will muck up all the chassis handling characteristics.

Some one correct me if i'm wrong.

So the options are turbo the sucker or replace with one out an sti etc
or put a engine from a Porsche in it, they're boxers aren't they?
Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983
