Some one correct me if i'm wrong.

So the options are turbo the sucker or replace with one out an sti etc
or put a engine from a Porsche in it, they're boxers aren't they?

im not that up to speed on porsches but i believe only the rear engined versions use boxers.

Buy one and 4age it with a good ole bluetop 16v, that will make people laugh/cringe haha.

Im sure they can squeeze more then 110hp out of the boxer engine NA. I would imagine toyota will be pushing for a high rev low cc engine.

what was the standard horsepower out of a 86 anyways? 84kw?

Thats only 110hp...

I bet with modern timing tech they could make a 110hp feel faster than a 110hp car of the same weight from 20 years ago.

Just imagine, a vtak boxer.

if everyone is worried about messing up the center of gravity, throw a rotor in it.... sorted....

and i doubt a new school boxer motor with all the useless electronic crap that comes along with them would be lighter than a 3S

failing that LS1 the c**t 5.7 of complete alloy goodness.

Not all subies have the throbbing yall are hating so bad. Ive been in a few modern ones which have lost hte sound totally.
I rode in an Type R STI once and tbh it kicked ass. That kinda power in something 2wd and light would be fantastic.

You guys can winge all you want. I'm just happy toyota is atleast making an attempt at another sports car. ATM there is nothing produced that i'd replace the JZA80 with except maybe a 350......and thats of the wrong race

Subaru engines get lighter and lighter the more you drive them! Between oil changes that is.
And you can never lose one either. You just follow the oil leak.

Yeah, it'd be ace with a wrx motor, but my mates manual 1.5 imprezza is slower or just as slow as an auto 4afe corolla or 1.3 auto yaris...

At least maybe there will be a new car out there that my 4age can beat in a straight line :P

I think that this thing will be fine with that sort of power.

110HP in a car today is a lot better to drive with than 110HP from 20 years ago.

i take it you have never driven a AE86,

Also the rear differential sourced from Subaru (from the Impreza 15S) has been cited as a weak link, it being limited to engines of 2.0L capacity or under for reliability concerns.

that makes me cry, what the hells the point in a shitty diff in a heavy car,

judging subaru on one or two budget cars issues is pretty much like saying TOYOTA IS SHIT BECAUSE THEIR 7M BLOWS HEAD GASKETS or ALL TOYOTA CARS ARE RUSTY BECAUSE I HAD AN AW11 ONCE AND IT WAS RUSTY.

be smart.

Also.

Toyota already knows that the market for a car like this is relatively small. Thats why they currently dont even produce a RWD sports car......Obviously the only way they can justify these costs is by going halfs with subaru. good on them.

also i dont think toyota gives a shit about the chosen few (is that what you said?)

Sorry for my insulting comment's merely stating the truth :P

For the money being spent devloping this vechile, i would suggest toyota look at fitting a altezza rear end, subaru rear ends are so weak im sure a standy 3k could blow one, and im also sure a 2zz would be a much more fun choice of motor and dramitcally more fuel effecnt, eversubaru i have ever been in has drunking more piss than a catholic preist on sunday thats n/a and turbo

my 225kw sti wrx never blew a diff or anything else for that matter.

i am huge toyota fan but i dont know why people hate subarus so much.

sti wrxs are a nice pretty fast everyday driver, and if looked after are reliable like any car i guess. but i must admit my bzg trueno took a beating everyday like nothing else i have owned and all i replaced was a clutch

the 89 on legacys pretty much earned subaru that rep on its own!

the imprezas are better, but still $$ to fix compared to a lot of other cars.
unless those cars are EVOs or V6 mitsis!
