As i have a lot of 4agze parts lying around we are thinking of making a 4agze turbo dune buggy!!

Does anyone have any plans to make one that they can share, or even better would be a chassis to work with?

I think it will be pretty damm funny

just watch out for cops at the beach as they'll ask to see its WOF and REG :lol:

Really? i thought you could just make a buggy and go for it? ill have to investigate some more i think.

My workmate is into building buggies, pretty sure he just plans them out himself and goes from there.

Go off road racing!

Class 3 is up to 1640cc and is really a fantastically good starting class. 1600cc is ample power to get you into and out of shyte loads of trouble.

Its cheaper to buy an offroader, or at least a frame. There are three buggy Clubs in the Auckland region. ORANZ should have details on their website www.oranz.co.nz. Join a club, have a few beverages with the other club members and get a feel for the sport and cars before you get a buggy.

If you wish to build its expensive, but you could start with something like a buggy from "The Edge" Australia and possibly enlarge the rear section for the 4age and a longitudinal transaxle.

I've driven my uncles 1600cc VW engine offroader....

And fark me, was that stupidly quick.

I'm not sure a turbo 4AGE would be such a good plan for a first buggy.

And yeah, offroad racing is FANTASTIC. If I didnt have a project car on the go at the moment, I'd be building/buying a buggy to race. It is the most fun, that I have ever ever ever had in a car/vehicle/etc.

Beachs and most rivers are classed as public roads, so theoretically you need reg and wof to drive on them, also speed limits need to be obey'd.

one of the first things you get told on a fork lift course,
a roadway is anywhere the public can drive weather or not they are actually allowed to. so if its not fenced off stopping you getting there, it can be classed as a road. as mentioned police are allowed to ticket you for no reg/wof on the beach.
its one of those things that if your responsible and not being a twat it wont be a problem. probably.

At last year's Rally Wairarapa a lone cop was breathalysing people shifting their cars in the Copthorne car park.
When asked under what authority he was doing this on private land he gave the same reply you have written.
Theoretically you could be charged for committing an offence in your own driveway.

Just class B reg it, (iirc...) as a tractor or ATV and you're sweet.

IIRC It has to be a secure area. ie A locked gate etc

sounds like the same situation in regards to grasskhanas isn't it?

I know the one we had for MM04 (or whichever year in chch) had to be locked gate at the paddock for safety I guess.... but I guess the same rules can apply to the above

Yup, if it fronts the street & can be easily seen.

Its along similar lines to the indecent exposure laws, if it can reasonably be expected to be seen or accessed by the public its classed as a public place

when you do skids behind a locked gate then they send the enviomential health and safty officer to your house(i think thats what hes called)
