ST205 running gear in 165, what wheels

Postby Trls250s » Sun Apr 27, 2008 12:38 pm

I have managed to cram most of the running gear from my written off 205 into my 165.
Had to use 165 half shafts front and rear about 25mm shorter.
ST205 brakes rears went straight on had to use the 165 hand brake cable.
ST205 brakes front disc down to 300mm, 3mm spacer disc to hub, cut out clearance hole in disc dust cover for lower ball joint, helicoiled hubs to use 205 mounting bolts.
The engine bay is FULL.

My problems is wheel size, I have the early 3 spoke 16 x 7.5 mags with 225/50/16 and I'm running out of room. In the rear the tire to strut clearance is very close (note using GAB struts from 205 with camber adjustment bolts.) and every corner the guards rub.
I believe some 205's JDM had 16 x 7 with enough offset to clear the calipers, is this correct. Any other suggestion for wheels that may fit please ?

Years ago I had 17 x 7 Advanti Nemisis wheels on my 205. They cleared the caliper; just. Find the offset of that wheel and you'll be right.

Thanks rick.

My old man posted this post.

The main problem with the offset of the wheels he is having is that the 165 is running all 205 running gear. This includes suspension, diffs, hubs, calipers etc. So it is an unusual circumstance in this sense.

He was wondering if anyone could lend him the 5 spoke style 205 wheels, just one for an afternoon so we can check clearances etc. If so hit me up and we well sort you out with a beer or 2 and a looksee at our gathering toyota collection.

i have A set of standard Group A st205 rims ( the early lightweight style ) off my grup A that you could use to check clearances if you wish ?

they are noty going anywhere so they could be put to use in getting your car sorted and ready for its own rims ?

Bit late amigo. The old dude splashed out on a set of new TSW's which suit

Hows the car looking? the 165 just went for re-vinning and failed on no split pin on the tie rod, a power steering leak, rear springs not captive enough (?) and no engine number.

But should be road legal by the end of the weekend.
