Brake trouble, sorted but questions

Postby IH8TEC » Wed Apr 30, 2008 2:39 pm

right my new brake setup has been working flawlessly, flew through cert, were awesome on the trip to Walkworth and back to auckland for tuning, trip from Auckland to Wanganui, and driving round for a week.

right, went out to get some rubber hose. and as soon as i pulled in the driveway, i lost all vacuum assistance.

looked at everything (so i thought), the one-way vavle was working fine, didn't lose any fluid, the booster wasn't leaking and the master cyl wasn't seized. the hoses were clear.

out of chance i had the light on and took a glimps down the pipe fitting that screws into the intake manifold for the booster line to go on. it looked blocked, so i took the fitting out.

in there i found about 15 small porcelain or ceramic type balls in that fitting, they were big enough to not go through into the intake manifold, but yet i have no idea where they came from :? basically they were big enough to block the hole off so no vaccuum could get to them.

i've searched about brake boosters and they dont seem to have anything ceramic or porcelain in them, jsut a big diaphram, and not they'd be from the one way valve as it's too small to fit them all.

noones been able to get near it to do something like that, and they weren't there when i installed everything.

so anyone got any ideas as to where they came from? i've asked a few people and they have no idea,

in the fitting shown in this pic

any suggestions are welcome,
cheers

Dude, that is some random sh it...
I normally have a half-assed answer for everything but not today.....

EDIT: A quick google search reveals that they are in fact alien eggs, there is no other possible solution. (i think the biggest of them is about to hatch..)

I have seen inside tyres, when taken off the rim - little balls of a similar size as the result of dust/powder inside the tyre getting mixed up with some moisture and rolling up into balls.
Ceramic... random!

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Ha - I've found the solution!

They are turbo eggs!
They are formed when a mummy turbo and a daddy turbo love each other very much.....
Anyway - let them incubate in a warm place and in 6 weeks little baby turbos will hatch out!
Feed them on high quality oil and don't try to get them to make boost until their shells harden!

haha, i'm assuming it's a ceramic or porcilian as they are really hard and have a bit of a shine to them in person. i think i'm gonna put them in a bag and put them on my shelf.

are they soft?.

Ive seen brakefluid that has been sitting for ages in a mast cyl turn into a powder, sorta like battery terminal corrosion. Maybe thats whats happened and its worked itself into balls?? mast cyl bypassing into the booster at some stage?

i tried cutting those balls open, too hard to cut lol, it just $&#$% off umm smashed it with a hammer and bits went flying in all directions, and the bit that took most of the impact, just went into a gritty dust, but still quite hard. and other bits that were broken off it were in hard chunks

i'm going to take the rest to auckland to try find out what they are. i will get to the bottom of it

i used to have a contact at dta (over at navy). the dude was a legend. unsure of who would be the go now but they would love that sort of sh it. If think of his name i'll let you know he loves a challenge. you'll get a mollecular structure and element breakdown that no-one would understand. plus some cool 1000x microscope pictures. the machine has some funny name which eludes me at present.

they blast the manifold before pro-coating. however i'm 100% positive they weren't there when i installed it after cleaning the thing out.

and its not like ali oxide that we use at work for blasting alloy, i suspected from bead blasting. but again, not there when i put the thing on.

this is whats got me puzzled :?
