Like watching motorsport?????

Postby fangsport » Fri May 02, 2008 6:49 pm

Whilst it may not get anything set in motion, a member of the rallying community (and sponsor of NZ RallyXtreme) has started a petition for a dedicated motorsports channel. With any luck, it could allow lower level events some airtime, thus enabling some of the under-funded clubmen a chance to get some financial assistance from sponsors.

Whilst rugby has it's own dedicated channel, plus much airtime on others, motorsport is left out, and is one of NZ's larger sports (by participation/spectator numbers).

done, that would be awesome, might be a good chance for the import scene to get more coverage instead of the 15-20min the performance tv get.

and i'm always in to see some good racing

too true. forgot about that side of it. there seems to be plenty of local content motorsport / vehicle interest shows that seem to be on at obscure times of night, or middle of sunday afternoon when those who do, are competing / assisting or specataing at events that could be televised.

That and when they put footage on its on TV1 and TV3 at the same time so you cant watch both anyway. And then they both finish at the same time and its nothing until next weekend.

Absolutely not, at least most motorsport is still free on TV, I'd hate to see it go to those greedy bastards Sky who have all our other sport. I refuse to pay for TV, especially if it has advertising.

Signed. Pity the only decent motorsport is on one, and even then any import racing is used as a gap filler between v8s and open wheelers :(

there is actually HEAPS of motorsport on TV.

a lot is on at stupid times though.....
prime shows quite a bit of local stuff, was watching SS2000 today!

i just hope that IF it happens, they do show a whole heap of decent stuff....
so so many things we miss out on.... DTM, F3, GP2, ALMS, BTCC, SuperGt... i could go on and on.

the problem is, to show a lot of those series, you need to purchase the rights....

As GTTpower says, import stuff is as a filler.

Open wheel crap gets SOOOOO boring to watch. The jet boats and 4x4 stuff is a whole lot better

Have you seen offroad racing on TV? Just wondered how it came across, I'm a little too myopic to be objective. I would have thought if you liked the 4x4 stuff you would have loved offroad racing.

from what i have seen, the coverage of the Asset Finance? Off-road Series was done quite well. for sure they don't have the resources/budget to get cameras to cover the full track, but they managed to get them to the action spots where passes were made, cars had incidents etc. the short course events made for much better TV than the enduros.

There has been the odd little bit of offroad stuff on Redmist, and yes it does look good on TV. When I say open wheel I means the likes of track stuff, Formula Ford, TRS, A1GP, F1 etc. All the stuff Revhead likes

Nah I wouldn't sign it. I don't have sky or freeview, but if the petition was specifically to get a freeview motorsport channel, I'd be keen. That said, is Freeview even working?? Anyway, if Sky opens up a Motorsport channel, it'll get it's greedy mittens on every imaginable event, leaving us simpletons lacking the mighty dish with no motorsport at all on telly!!
Not to mention they'd just end up putting open wheelers and something rediculous like NASCAR on all day and the good shit at 4am on Tuesday mornings or some such time!
Basically what they need is more free to air channels, sure the ads are annoying, but more free channels alone could bring down the price of Sky and we'd all get the best of both worlds - maybe then I'd sign the petition.
Tip for successfull rally driving: Don't sink you're car in the first pond to catch your eye.

I don't think a special interest free to air channel would fly in this country, we simply don't have a large enough population for that.
