Car race....

More than 100 cars – most of pre-1990 vintage – have entered Sunday’s event which is organised by the Historic Racing Club.

There will be some cool cars there including the one in the below article

we'll be there again with the 2007 FSAE car, wearing some parts from the 2006 car and hoping to defend the title and maybe improve our record from last year (might be difficult if it's wet!)

I took heaps of photos, and I will attempt to upload them over the next couple of days.

Was a shame about the weather, and it caused a couple of crashes, which is unfortunate. One of the cars that had an off was a mint camaro

If any one has photos of their car or any particular car then let me know, and I will happily put them up.

haha, plenty of info here www.fsae.co.nz

Not much hope of getting it street legal (or getting one generally, seeing as we've only made one), it can't even be homologated for proper motorsport use because the driver's legs are in front of the front axle.

Fastest time this year was 25.9 i think? I was down taking shelter under our tent most of the day so didn't see much racing, but I think that's what they said at the prizegiving. Mostly cleaned up by the 4wds, although Steve Neville in his porsche cup car (who came second last year) was in the top 5 overall, we were 6th overall with a fastest time of 28.5. The record is 21.67 so things were about 20% slower in the rain!

results a at www.grandprix.org.nz
Came 16th out of 72 cars, only did 2 runs as the rain poured down after the second run and was thinking how big the kerbs are and after understeering and wheel spinning in the other runs I took the car home in one piece.

If anyone has high res pics of the SAE car, I'd love it if you could send them to me so we could potentially use them in publicity documents.

I didn't get any pics up the hill but I'll upload and post a few from around the 'pits'

ok, here's my pics (i'm not going to bother linking them unless someone complains about the size...)

Freaking sweet 308GTB Ferrari
Image

old Beema
Image

Andrew Hawkeswood's 800hp/800kg pike's peak car, adorned with a couple of fashionable UoA FSAE rear wing elements
Image

Lotus 7 replica, I think this one had an 18R in it
Image

Sweet little exige
Image

The ferrari again
Image

I believe this is a newish car from Chevron, powered by a 20B turbo. A bit rough around the edges, didn't get a close look but it does look pretty cool
Image

Possibly my favourite car there, Steve Neville's Pantera Detomaso. These things look so bad-ass. Steve was being greedy and racing this and his Porsche
Image

There's about 2000hp sitting right there:
Image

And finally Clark Proctor's Escort. Powered by a VG30DETT(? the 300zx motor), makes 540hp I think he said.
