Weird noise in left rear. 2000 Caldina GT-T

Post by Warren »

Hey all,

Just noticed over the last 2 weeks or so a funny noise coming from the left rear (passenger side, rear wheel) It kinda sounds like a grinding/rubbing noise.
The noise happens when going very slow in 1st or 2nd at about 10-30kph and when accelerating through right hand corners and/or roundabouts.
It's not a constant noise either. Kinda of makes the noise every 1 rotation the wheel does if you understand what I mean. (rub.........rub.......rub.......rub, rather than constant/consistent rub)

I jacked the car up to confirm it wasn't guard rub (as a freind of mine suggested) I lowered and put 18's on about year ago so why it would suddenly start rubbing against the guard is beyond me. There is plenty of clearance. Always has been.

So I thought maybe a wheel bearing has worn/is wearing out? I have heard Caldinas are notorious for left rear wheel bearings wearing out. The car has done ~144,000kms.

Anyone else had a similar problem?
What do you think?
