Long overdue garage tidyup means I need room to work on the offroader. So I decide to put the rally Celica in my box body truck. Rain eases off around 7pm, pitch black, still drizzeling. So its a rush job to push the Celica out of the garage and get it sort of lined up for the truck. I get the car no where near lined up but decide to winch it half way up the ramps and back it off again to align it better.
Attach 10,000lb winch, flick the wireless winch remote a few times, takes the tension, winds the car a few feet onto the ramps. At this point its wound all on one side of the drum. So I get into the box body, go down its 8 meter length to the winch and with my foot direct the cable while I flick the remote once again. Winch takes the strain and the car starts to be pulled up the ramps. It doesnt stop.... I'm not on the remote button anymore and havent been for a few seconds... but up its coming. Down button!!! holds the winch off, then it starts winding the car in again. Switch off the winch... still coming. Cars now up the ramps and coming at me with a reasonable clip. GET OUT!! Car's well and truly blocking the back of the box body, so I go for the side door. Its latched externally.. noooooooo. Attack the winch again... only thing I can do is remove the croc clip for the earth to the wireless remote. Doesnt stop it. The car is now about a meter and a half away from the end of the box body and is just about to chew through my spares closet.
Only one thing for it. Jump the car run out the back of the truck, back to the front of the truck for the batteries, disconnect the batteries. During which time I can listen to the 10,000 lb winch wind the front of the car through the end of the box, the winch to rip itself from the floor and then wind itself through the subframe of the car.
Ready to jump? Foot on front rad support... winch stops.
