fitting Factory Sideskirts: St205 celica

Postby Prymal » Sun Jun 01, 2008 5:07 pm

heys - a real uicky before i go poing about in my sills - I have a set of Factory sideskirts to go onto my Gt4 , they are ready to fit

I need to know if you need specific clips to affix them to the sills , or whther you use the ones that plug up the holes in the sills already there ..

Ive looked underneath , found the plugs ( plastic not rubber ) where the skirt mounting points will align , but i dont want to destroy them if im to use them ..

Any help would be good please !

Cheers

Just doing the same thing myself but to a ST202--fitting side skirts.
Painted them up and place them up againist the car and found that the drain holes are just that! not mounting holes
I'll have to drill holes in the sill for the push in clips, so I'm leaving that job to a panelbeater

Mine are second hand from a GT4, so a GT4 might have the mounting holes there already, I don't think that all GT4's come with body kit fitted.

officially mines not to have it - its an experiment n looks. I like the factory kit - ahve seen the smae on a friends of mines group A in AUS and it looked vety suiting to a street car .. if i find it doesnt suit - it will come off and it ill go a lot more hardcore rally in appearance and additions

well i hit a snag - 3m adhesive tape left on the old skirts , bloody near impossible to get off ..

Ive tried a number of things to remove the goo left behnd so new adhesive can be layed down , but havig a hell of a time getting the old stuff off ? Any points or tips for this ?

remeber ABS plastic - so harsh chemicals might fail , and heat is a no no - as it will melt it

Yeah had the same problem with my ones too. Used a heat gun to help remove the film and then srapped away most the glue left with a bluntish knife and then sanded the rest off.
Pretty painful but was the only way that I could find to get it off.

I've used the edge of a CD to remove this sort of stuff in the past. you have to use it at a fairly flat angle though as they are almost sharp enough to scratch paint.

i got the goo off - hours of gentle razorblade to remove the excess foam then 3m adhesive remover did the trick - should have them on , still waitiing on the poly sealant and a dry day to remove the clips in the sills !

got the clips out - found i need to source some grommet style clips from Mr T

a handy curren with the same skirts nearby provided the answer ..

bad news is i got ran into last weekend - so finishing the kit has been delated till the accident damage is fixed !

Fugg!
