Starter Motor Location

Ok, can someone describe where exactly I should be looking for the starter motor on an AE92 FXGT?
I spent a bit of time between the rain yesterday looking for it - about the only place I didn't look was under the air filter box.

Have a strange intermittant fault where I turn the ignition and nothing happens. Voltage drops but nothing from starter motor. Not the battery as stereo, lights etc are fine at the time.

A couple of turns of the key and it'll usually fire.

Guessing it might be a connection on the starter motor - just got to find the freaking thing...

Looking from the top. Where the gearbox connects to the motor, either beside the exhasut manifold or sorta under the intake plenum. I cant remember which way round ae92s are, will be one of the above.

hmmm. starter turns flywheel so always start lookin wher the gbox is bolted to the engine. sounds like u have a flattery

Should be under the exhaust manifold on GB side on your car.

Dodgy starter throw solenoid? It happens on supra's all the time and you its because the old wiring causes too much of a voltage drop by the time the juice gets to the solenoid. You have to rig up a relay system

Just a thought.

yeah i had a similar prob in my ute, ended up being a combination of dodgy ignition mechanism and in turn a fried solenoid.

Id say it could be the stater cranking signal to the ecu thats faulty. Its a little wire that goes to the starter and always comes loose.

its comon for ae82's and ae92 because of the heat produced from the exhaust manifold to die faster. they try to start but dont and makes it sound like the battery is flat, wait a sec or 2 and try again and it starts up.. you will probably need a new or recondition it soon. its under the exhaust manifold gearbox side.
