Same as the intersection at the end of the street at work.
The amount of people who don't actually know that rule scare me...

I come across this problem EVERY day on the way to work, and i'd say the 1 in 10 knowing the rule (as mentioned above) would be correct.

I'm usually in the work van with bull bars to "obtain" my right to turn. People that still ignore me turning get a close up view of my bull bars and a finger for their troubles if they give me an evil look.

I like your attitude Sergei of turning around to try and educate the person on their wrong driving habit.

The intersection I have said problem on is JUST down the road from a cop shop, so if anyone ever wants to "take it outside" with me over this i'm happy to follow them to the cop shop to rub their stupidity in their face.

no one has stepped up yet :(

only some 4WD owner that decided to stop in the middle of the road and reverse towards me... so I did the above with the addition of a nice toot and they followed me till I stopped and said it was my fault because I should have seen them indicate they wanted to pull into a drive they had already well and truely passed. The pussy wouldn't get out and discuss the issue tho and drove off pffft

(yeah road rage is a part of my day to day living)

just one of the many road rules that people have no idea about so i treat that kind of corner like i dont know either

just like roundabouts, turning into the closest lane on a multi lane rd... i could go on for ages

Yeah and at the end of the day I've got far more important things to worry about than creating the hassle that could occur when things go wrong if I do force the issue with someone who isn't clear on the give way rules.

So I just roll with it, turn the stereo up, and enjoy driving.

Just about as annoying as the two laned intersection rule.

Almost been run off the road several times while turning left into a two lane road, when the person turning right into the same road thinks they can cut straight to the left lane and I shouldn't be there

Yeah that's another strange one.

I didn't actually know that one until I got pulled over for it in dunedin.

Really, How is that strange? It makes perfect sense, there are even signs at these intersections in Wellington that tell you to turn into lane nearest you, Still people don't get it

Makes perfect sense because it keeps the traffic flowing

nothing more enjoyable than being stuck behind someone that doesn't know the rule and so is giving way to oncoming turning traffic.....even though they all turn into the correct lane..... its sad that common sense doesn't prevail in said situations :(

Has anyone noticed that the poll percentage is totally broken?
19 out of 50 is 38% not 27%.
And those 38%, well please read road code, as you guys and girls got it wrong.

Brads "roundabout" analogy is spot on, I'll remember that :)

If there's no control at the intersection...I just imagine that whoever would be hit in the drivers door is the one who has to give way.

I know its the red car that is ment to give way, but I would never ever pull out if i was in the blue car. Simply coz most people don't realise that the blue car does have right of way and I don't want to cause an accident.

Hmm thats good to know.... I always thought that when exiting any driveways (private or public) you had to give way to everything else.

Well here there is only one street in the whole city that has more than one lane in the same direction, and there is no sign's anywhere,

and all the old people who have always been taught,
"Keep Left" pull out onto the road turning right, and cut across both lanes into the left lane.

I actually sat at the intersection yesterday for a sec at th lights,
and 99% of the cars did just that.

A cop could sit there and write tickets all day.
In fact, could probably keep 3 or 4 busy all day if they wanted.

You could start moving and just be prepared to stop if the other person is braver ;). I always do that when I am in position of blue car (as they supposed to give me way). If c**ts purposely damage my car I know that I am in the right, and I am fully insured (bloody insurance is about a grand a year for my 205). If c**t does a runner I can always find him from his plate.

Yes. Even with my normally good memory when it comes to rules, I overlooked this one - theres a thread on here commemorating it :o

Would be much easier if they put give way signs everywhere ...; especially driveways for shops, etc, wh ich pull onto roads. The local Mitre 10 Mega is one in particular which confuses motorists regularly...
Also one I travel thru every day ...

The roundabout thing is a nice pointer.

I had an argument with a cop one night over this, Didn't realize it was a mufti cop as I pulled the finger at him,

So he does a u-turn in front of someone to chase me into a car park and tries to tell me is is right because it's a driveway, I asked if the cops have a different road code to us mere mortals?

After his "it's a driveway" comment I asked if the council/AA usually label driveways with a street sign haha

He ended it with "well we'll have to agree to disagree", got in his car and left - :?
