What can cause a turbo to freeboost?

I no its not the turbo (had that checked out)
All the hoses are connected.

Well the wastegate has to be shut all the time. So either the wastegate is stuck shut, its not getting a boost feed, stuffed diaphragm etc

yeah,

run a pipe straight from the pressure source to the actuator and see what happens.

Hey, Have done a lot of work on a mates Evo (4g63),

When he first had the car he decided to put a 3" exhaust on it, which for some reason caused it to free boost, he blew a Headgasket so he decided to make the car into a weapon, anyways....

It could quite possibly be something similar if you have an exhaust of similar description. But I would also suggest blocking up the boost controller feed and eliminating that first.

I know all the lines are correct because it was fine and nothing had been touched, it just happened.

Ill take out the boost controller and see if that fixes it

May have burnt a line or something fell off? As everyone has already said could be...

- no vac/pressure to actuator
- actuator stuffed (diaphragm?)
- wastegate vent jammed somehow
- boost control broken

anyway hope you manage to sort it.

just run a new piece of piping between comp housing and actuator to be sure. and id suggest pulling turbo out and checking wastegate flap as suggested above. turbo is easy to remove/refit in under an hr.

i had a gsr for a couple years and had a few similar issues such as running open boost or not boosting at all. usually always was turbo/ wastegate related.
