I got done a couple weeks ago at a random checkpoint $150 fine., was driving my mates 180sx cos he doesnt have a licence. since theyve re worded the whole leglistation to 'any vehicle noticably louder then factory' means less of an excuse for you when they get you you to rev the car.

guess it didnt help being a rb 2.2 stroker engine with 272 degree cams and 3' straight through exhaust

LVV is different to non certified cars though. And the rules on non certified stuff says the noise has to be similar or less than original.

Bah, was meaning if he was going to the effort of certifying it. The subjective test has always been "compared to original spec".

Although it's a big ask to expect cops to know what every car should sound like out of the factory

There are always little tricks you can do to get your exhaust past the certification. And once your exhaust has that tag on it they cant do much..

I dont know why everyone is so worried.

You'll pobably find that the cops and LTNZ will get warranters to demand a written DB reading on every warrent if they suspect it if louder than factory.

Kerm3t has a full cert for everything 100% legit but still got greenied and had to get a written DB reading for VTNZ wof.

Cert is for safety of the vehicle, not loudness of exhaust. Friend got a cert in his s14 a few weeks back now and they picked up on a broken seat mount but didn't say anything about his exhaust which is 3-inch straight through and damn loud!

If pulled up on wof or by police you are guilty untill proven innocent and must get a certificate to say it is within legall requirements

Yes, but i do believe they can still be challenged if the officer was basing the ticket on incorrect assumptions, i.e that it was your car making the noise, or your car has a modified exhaust when in fact it is standard etc etc, just like other instant fines

Mate of mine got done on Friday night. Coming south on the northern, coming down the Oteha Valley offramp. Cop was in the gas station, heard him coming down the offramp and pulled him over and gave him a ticket.

Surely if he was heard from a fair distance away, its too loud. If you have a quiet exhaust you have no worries.

if you have a moddified exhaust / car / engine whatever that makes an annoying noise, then you have to expect attention of the wrong sort. Thats the way the cookie crumbles imo
