will this also apply to ruc's on personal diesel vans? used to be cheaper to drive a diesel van than a car, but the diesel price has only gone up with petrol, it hasn't come back down, then ruc's on top, petrol's more of a cheaper option, and if they raise the ruc's for these as well, then might as well give up on the diesel all together...

Was heading north yesterday up motorway of CHCH as the trucks were heading south. Must say it looked bloody impressive with all the trucks cruising along in one lane with all their lights on as it was still dark

most places around the world with a decent rail system use rail to get it to the city, and smallish trucks to get it from "central ish" places to super markets... no need to be a prat about it.

True but NZ... well Wellington in particular doesn't have the best rail system anyway. But I guess it could be done.

I drove into work this morning at the usual time on the usual route and I couldnt believe that I got there about twice as fast I think everyone left early so it was me and about 10 other cars going down the Nauranga gorge

Yo Brendon, just my own opinion really.

I base it on the fact that the wgtn rail system is falling to bits and I gave up on using the train for my work commute a year or 2 ago. Judging by the fact that it (the train) was always late (going by 4 different trainstation locations I've used over the years), always over loaded, often breaking down, over priced andf the bridges are over due for servicing. And the fact that the current line capacity doesn't seem to be enought o support passengers never mind trying to allocate schedules for the extra freight to use those same lines.

gutted as, I had to drive my truck up to Palmy yesterday so didn't get to join in with the Welly boys and missed out on the palmy convoy probably good though as my delivery in The Square could have been interesting haha.

As a point of interest, our company had just set our rates for the year when this was announced, now its completely on us to carry that cost.

I think the government had this planned ever since they bought the railways, I mean what better way to convince more people to start shipping more freight by rail right? $&#$% BS to that.

I think we have the support of 95% of the people in the country and the other 5% are either ridiculously staunch Labour supporters or just plain and clearly stupid if they can't see the effect this will have on the end consumer.

This increase in RUCs would be great if, as we've all said the roads are shocking, and pointless roadworks are everywhere, if we actually saw this money going into the roads that need it. Not going into some big consolidated fund that the government uses for their leisure. Taxes on all things related to Roading need to go back into the roads.
