I know its the red car that is ment to give way, but I would never ever pull out if i was in the blue car. Simply coz most people don't realise that the blue car does have right of way and I don't want to cause an accident.

You could start moving and just be prepared to stop if the other person is braver . I always do that when I am in position of blue car (as they supposed to give me way). If c**ts purposely damage my car I know that I am in the right, and I am fully insured (bloody insurance is about a grand a year for my 205). If c**t does a runner I can always find him from his plate.

It's not worth ever pressing the issue if it's going to result in damage, insured or not. I know I'd never feel the same about a car if I'd had it smacked up. It's just not worth the hassle and the car's never the same again. Who cares that they didn't give way and you arrive at your destination 26 seconds later.

It's that kind of attitude that is the cause of a lot of problems on the road, people just need to chill out a bit more.

We campaigned for and got a Give Way put at the end of our street for this and the fact that most of the people in the red car cut the corner massively. It made the intersection a lot safer which is good because most of the cars from the accidents ended up in our garden, since the giveway went in our new fence hasn't been hit at all.... five years and counting (it used to happen every 4-6 months )

Im glad it worries you. I wouldnt be suprised if that 30% is representative of the population at large.

People knock the Give Way Rule as it is policed in NZ. In this particular example. I agree wholeheartedly.

Yes that 30% maybe (and i'm not picking holes here about any one member on here, but!!) like most of the population that forgets. Like indicating at roundabouts like Brad stated, and the two laned inersection like Matt stated. How is it that people forget these rules? Do they just think "Sweet!! Got my licence don't ever need to worry about remembering that rule again!"

The road that my girlfriend's road attaches to has an intersection where this is almost always the case. People will stop (pulling out) so close to the center line that when you're in the 'red car' position you can't see them indicating and think they're some old fool (lots of them around there) who's forgotten to indicate until you've driven too far as you said and then it's kinda too late...

Moral of the story, people should stay in their lanes more evenly. Or drive cars with indicators that aren't hidden. Damn subarus.

I was in this situation once, me being the blue car, and a police officer as the red car.

I was a bit nervous, being as everyone just waits because the red car (police car) usually goes, but he sat there and waited for me to go.

Felt good, that the police do actually know their road rules!
