radio reception issues - ae111 killed the radio star

Postby deaf_rattle » Mon Jul 28, 2008 9:45 pm

the "for you" mp3 player that came with the ae111 was never able to pick up reception. Even when installed in another car.

So i put my sony cd player into the ae111 and it worked fine.. for a few months and then stopped picking up reception.

ive just bought a new cd/mp3 player for it and im abit worried the car may chew through the radio receiver in this one too.

Although it may have been a coincidence (the sony cd player was old) but is there something that maybe causing the radio function to kick the bucket?

i was thinking the only possible thing would be the aireal if it were the wrong impedance or something. likely?

Anything i should check out before i put this head unit in?

cheers

Maybe check the aerial cable for damage or the plug that goes into the back of the head unit for a solid connection (wire to plug etc) cos if the two parts of the coaxial cable touch then that will cause that kinda problem won't it?

AE111s (have two myself) run glass mount aerials in the rear window. Assume yours has that still.

Only thing I can think of is an intermittend short somewhere. In my ae111s the aerial cords are really short and may be prone to the insulation splitting so maybe start at that end.

almost anything that has in-glass aerials have an antenna amp that is powered up from the back of the radio.

On the AE101, the RF amp is an the left rear C-Pillar. It's powered from the "Power Antenna" output of the radio. If you look the rear window, you'll see that upper part of the rear demister is a separate circuit - that goes to the RF amp input.
