pumped and rolled?

Postby barryogen » Wed Aug 06, 2008 2:51 pm

Ok, I get the idea, you do it because you want to put big fat wheels on the car, but what does pumping the guards, and rolling the guards actually mean?

Rolling = flattening the lip that tucks down under the edge of the guard.

Pumping = stretching the metal so the whole guard itself bulges outwards.

The edge of the front guards keeps getting caught by the tyres on my RX7, and every few weeks I have to grab a piece of wood and lightly massage the pulled bits back in place.

Would Rolling the guards fix this? Who can roll guards?

Anyone with a baseball bat and fat friends can roll guards :P or you can get it done with a proper tool by someone that knows what they are doing.

handy... that answers it pretty clearly.

Wouldn't both do some damage to the paint finish?
Or is it just assumed that you would be getting it re-sprayed afterward?

I always had that thought, also what would happen to the guard liner? - remove it altogether?

You can do either without damaging the paint, but you have to be careful and you can only go so far. The inner guard has to be removed in most cases I would imagine

that would suck if you drove a lot of loose gravel roads, top of guards would have inverted dents.

i have a proper guard rolling tool, and 99% of the time the inner guard has to be removed and the paint cracks seeing as paint is not made to bend, but generally its not too bad and its on the innerside so cant be seen. if your worried about upward dents, im sure ya would be worried about cracked paint
