legality of slip-on spacers

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Sat Aug 09, 2008 9:34 pm

does anyone know what the go is with slip-on spacers?
I may need to put some 5mm spacers on my front wheels. My studs are plenty long enough so they won't be an issue.

but from what I've heard you can't just slide them on, then bolt the wheels on. they need to be spigotted or located or something...

can anyone provide any more specific info on this??

thanks

yeah the spacers have to be certified.
they don't specify exactly HOW they need to be attached, so I assume you can do it any way possible (within reason...)

how have other people done it?

if I was you i'd call someone that does it for a job, eg a certifier, and ask if they are legal at all.

they are legal, they are just strict on how they're setup so i'm wanting to see how other people have done it. haven't had the opportunity to ring a certifier yet.

and as stated originally, my studs are plenty long enough.

I use 5mm spacers on the rear due to wheel offset/camber making it rub the strut. When I had it certified it was included. They've never been mentioned at all.

I think the main thing is that there is enough thread/enough turns of the wheel nuts.

But best to check with a certifier though because this was over 2 years ago.

Had 5mm's in the front to stop it rubbin', WOF guy didn't notice at all.

You need at least 7 full turns on your wheel nuts, or else you'll need longer studs.

One of the tricks I've seen (not recommended) is using washers on each of the wheel studs isntead of a spacer, that way the WOF guy can't see it, yes dodgey :)
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
