Hi all

I need to sort out the oil feed for my turbo as the current 't' off the pressure sensor is leaking and less than optimal.

I have in my possession a metre or so of braided line, with an outside diametre of 7-8mm (I don't have a decent measuring tool). It looks like braided hose fittings are measured in 'AN' or 1/16 of an inch sizes. Converting 8mm -> 1/4 inch -> 4AN. Can someone confirm this would be correct?

The line currently has crimp connectors on both ends, which I don't trust.. they seem cheap and nasty. I also only need the hose to be about 25cm long.

Woudl I be better to replace these fittings (once hose is trimmed) with something like these ->link<-, or better to get someone to make up permanent fittings?

Are those prices on trademe reasonable (i don't care about having fancy blue/red stuff, just need it functional so brass would be fine)??

8mm is closest to 5/16 inch. 1/4 inch is approx 6.3mm

Hmm... hose seems to only come in even numbers - 4/16, 6/16, 8/16 etc.

It's definitely around 8-8.5mm (according to my ruler). It'd be just my luck that I've got odd size hose.. heh.

post up a pic of what it looks like,

each brand is different, and not all can have screw together fittings, some must be crimped

hose is measured by the inside diameter not the outside

a new stainless braided hose with crimped fittings to suit, from alert motorsport is around $60

Unfortunately not with AN fittings, its all external. Hence there are slightly different internal measurements based on brand.

Close 4AN = 4/16th inch = 1/4 inch
6AN = 6/16th inch or 3/8ths

The cheaper fittings and braded line are very difficult to fit together. I bought quality push lock fittings and hose in from the states. www.anplumbing.com However if I ever do this again I'll ensure both hose and fittings are the same brand as it was a complete and utter pain in the chocolate spider to fit.

Hey Aaron, the original oil feed is blocked with a bolt correct? IMO, the best thing to do is take that bolt and the fitting currently on the turbo to greenlane speed shop and have them make up a proper feed for you, then put the oil pressure sensor assembly back how it was from factory. We did the best we could with what we had at the time but unfortunately that wasn't really optimum.

I did, been busy this past week but I'll go down there and have a look for it tomorrow. Michael said the leak on the return might be due to the bolts on the turbo side being cap screws, apparently one of them was difficult to tighten? He suggested changing them to normal bolts, which should make it easy to tighten them up using a spanner.

Nah it's not the turbo end of the return which is leaking, it's the block end. Was only a very very slight leak, so might be ok after I tightened it a bit.
