Yeah I think you might be able to ask for the cert.

But i can tell you 100% that the locked speed doesn't have to be shown to you. Nor does it need to be locked. It just has to have a good tone etc on the gun/radar unit.

I got pulled over doing 140 in 100 zone, mufti cop was tailing me at 100 so I went upto 110 he kept coming up behind so I nailed it.

Got a big lecture and let off with a warning.

reckon it one or combination of the following 3

1) age (not in the target age group)
2) occupation (IT)
3) driving record (clean)
4) attitude (friendly, admit fault, dont be cheeky)

...why would you do that?

I've only been pulled up once for speed, 63 km/h in a 50 (Kinross hill if anybody in west auckland knows it) I was polite and courteous and got nothing but an earful for my trouble, cop was a woman and possibly the single most unpleasant person I've ever dealt with.

In contrast to that I've been stopped at checkpoints or pulled over for having a bulb out with no warrant/reg and ended up having a chat to the copper about the car. Was polite, admitted fault and didn't try to make excuses. Just explain the circumstances and was sent on my way with a smile.

I've been told in the past to never admit you were speeding as potentially the officer may not have had an actual figure, if you say '65ish' then they can issue one of those generic speeding tickets

I was pulled over the other day, cop was actually alright. Most cops around Palmy and Foxton are complete wankers who take themselves FAR to seriously.

Anyway,

Was speeding through "roadworks" appparently, when the only roadworks were done about a week before, and was only 3 or 4 potholes being filled in, in a 30km area i was doing 100, he let me off, as i argued that the works were done ages ago, which was fine. Unfortunately he still got me at 117ks leaving the roadworks. I just said sorry it just got away from me,and he said nothing, asked me if i wanted to check his radar and it was accurate, so i just accepted the ticket and went on my way.

I have however, heard stuff from mates that you can request that an officer show you his badge and his number to prove he is a real cop, as well as he must be wearing his hat to give you a ticket, for the same reason, as you can't be 100% sure hes a real cop? Sounds BS to me but funny if its actually true.

you can absolutely request to see his badge and officer number, and a real cop should have no problems in giving them to you. no idea on teh hat thing though.

the hat thing is BS, they must however have part of their uniform(which includes their badge) to show their officer number.

Good grief the FUD that goes with this sorta thing is amazing.

If you do the speed and get pinged for it, pay up - don't go hunting for excuses unless those excuses are genuine...
