supra rear wheel bearing

drivers side rear wheel bearing on a jza80 supra is this hard to change???? Any nasty suprises i gotta look out for cheers....

symtoms i get is sometimes there is a little clank noise when i use the brakes or when i turn around a corner........rear wheel also has up an down play......cant really hear any noise like humming or grinding, does this sound like a wheel bearing issue?????

could see if the nut on the shaft is done up nice and tight?

yup it is we made sure by using a 1.5meter iron rod as a lever on the wretchet 8O

if wheel only has play in one direction what does it mean coz i heard wheel bearing will cause play in all directions.... the wheel does seem to have any play from side to side it only has play when you grab the bottom side an the top :? what could this be????

Take the wheel off and have a look!

well in that case put it back on and drive it till it falls off. Then replace bearing 8)

I would have thought if the bearing was shot you'd have play in all directions, and would be able to feel vibrations in the wheel if you spun it by hand. (i've only dealt with a couple of bung wheel bearings tho)

Sounds like a bush to me, I had a worn one on my z20 which had play like you describe, don't know about noises tho cos there are so many other rattles etc in that car.

if wheel bearing is worn you should be able to feel it through the spring - put your hand on spring and spin wheel, can compare to another wheel to feel the difference if needed.

it was the wheel bearing.....changed it out all good now, things to note are it wont always make noises an wont always have play in all directions, it had a deep groove in the old bearing, wheel doesnt have play anymore............. :)
