Locally available exhausts - ST205

Postby RunningRich » Sun Aug 17, 2008 11:41 am

Hey all

When I got my ST205 it came with a 3" mandrel bent exhaust made locally. Unfortunately it had two poxy Cobi bullet resonators in the middle and a tiny oval muffler at the rear.

Can you say drone?

Anyway the plan is replace one (or both) resonators with a small oval muffler in the factory location and get a large rear muffler, something like the photo here:

Is this style of muffler available locally without special order from Japan?

Where from? In the past I've either found Repco style rubbish or someone has tried to sell me a poxy Honda system ("Don't worry, it can be made to fit") for $3000...

Exhaust

Postby ST205 GT4 NZ New Group A » Mon Aug 18, 2008 6:51 pm

Ritch,

The other NZ new guy and I run the HKS Silent power one. The workmanship, fit , atheistics, flow and volume are very very good.

When I was look to upgrade mine the comparable cost to get something made here was more expensive. You can pick up the rear and mid sections for around NZ $850-$900

The fit is perfect , no scraping what so ever and I am low and stainless !

If you want to check out mine on the car let me know.

How is your car going ?

Thanks

Hey Frank

I gave in and bought the HKS one too, $825 delivered off ebay. Couldn't be arsed mucking around to make things fit. The less time on my back under the car the better. I may just have to make a short section of pipe to match the existing flange in my system.

Car's going fine, has done daily driver duties for last 4 months. Alfa's driveshaft is in pieces waiting for guys at work to make me a 20mm bushing. Only thing Celica hates is being kicked out of the garage, runs like a pig in the rain.

When Alfa's going I'll get ST205 back in garage and reinstall Bilstein's, new disks and exhaust. Will then get the Autronic in hopefully and get the blitz turbo sorted.

Haven't been around much, went and got married for one thing! You'd have apprciated the wedding cars, Ferrari 328GTS, F430 and to Lexus's (Lexi?). :D

How loud is the HKS silent hi power? Does it conform to the 95dB limit?

The documents say a stock ST205 is 83db and the HKS exhaust is 89db. I don't know how that is measured, my Japanese isn't too good...

Thats pretty simplistic as far as a presentation goes...
what car was it on for a start?
turbo or NA?

stupid advertising.
