How do I check if my external wg is working?

Postby snwtoy » Fri Aug 22, 2008 10:25 pm

Admittedly I don't have it plumbed up 100% correctly, but the line I do have connected to the bottom t-piece has some pressure (factory vsv line). Nothing connected to the top of it.

I'm not hearing it open (but its' plumbed into the 'zorst so maybe I won't be able to hear it).

Car is boosting at least 15-16psi (haven't let it go any further, for fear of blowing up!) the spring is rated at 14 psi, so something's not right.

Does the pressure line to the bottom absolutely have to be boost pressure, or will it open just based on the spring rating alone?

It will open when the pressure in the bottom chamber hits 14psi.

Your turbo should have a nipple for what the internal wastegate used. use that.

I didn't realise the spring was acting against the feed from the bottom, I thought it was activated by turbo boost against the piston. How stupid am I now that I think about it? What turbo boost. Numbnuts.

Crap, my chinese special turbo has no nipple, I need to take the housing off and tap one in ...

Don't have time this weekend dammit :(

You can take it from anywhere before the TB, doesn't have to be from the turbo. Not sure if you can take it from after the TB, might cause the WG to slam shut when you come off throttle. Not sure if thats bad or not.

How to hook an external up according to Tial. I'd say they know what they're talking about hehehe 8) .

Bottom port is for reference and top port is for boost control. When using spring tension only, vent the top to atmosphere.
