J Walking and red light runners

As I was sitting in the smoko room having breakfast this morning I watched two cops on the police bikes "patroling" the intersection.
I watched countless of people cross the busy intersection of Beaumont Street and Fanshaw Street at their own will. Is there such a thing as J walking in this country? If there is, man, those cops could have made a killing in 15mins I was watching.

Also, can you be ticketed for running late orange/yellow/amber (or what ever you like to call it) lights? I saw so many people running late yellows with lights turning red well before they were through the intersection.
Makes me wonder what the hell they were doing/looking for?

I must have seen somewhere between 30-40 people cross against the "red man light" The cops could have made somewhere between $1000-$1500 in that 15mins.

Yes, you can (and should be!) ticketed for running an amber. The law says you must stop for amber if you can do so safely (not if you can't make it before it turns red!).

Hmmm, that's what I thought. I've seen it all over the t.v. saying they going to get thougher. But those cops didn't really care.
I'm not going to tell them how to do thier job because I sure wouldn't want thier job with all the pressure and bad raps in media, but surely that had to be pretty obvious?!?!

Nah, they'd rather concentrate on loud exhausts and sit under speed limit signs with laser guns

haha yeah. Which brings me to another point. If you were heading off the motorway into that intersection you have to slow down to 50kph just after the interesction. And I seriously doubt half those people slowed from 80kph to 50kph. I reckon some of them were doing 60-70kph. Still they did nothing.

Like what? They were just sitting there looking around, having a chat, more sitting and another chat. Then one rode away and then the other cop rode off about 5 minutes later.
Maybe they were on the look out for something/someone who knows.

why does it seem to be this last year or two that red light running has gotten worse,

and keeps getting worse, what goes through some ones mind when it is clearly on red, (considering it has been green on our side for about 2 seconds) i mean what is the best they think will happen,

Its hard to slow down safely when you're accelerating as quick as possible!

no, its not. in tauranga its extremely bad. apparently the orange light means f**n nail it before it goes red lol.

it really grinds my gears the amount of 'illegal activity' u see going on around town that the police are barely able to 'police' yet the powers that be are more than happy to fire up new laws (noisy exhaust laws, banning the use of BOV's etc). people entering round abouts when their exit isnt clear, red light runners. crossing roads and ending up sitting in the middle of the intersection blocking any turning traffic etc.

I know of a guy in tauranga who drink/drives every $&#$% night!!! he should be $&#$% locked up and raped savagely (sorry theres a lot more to this story including him threatening people with axes!!!!!!)

I agree with this but its not just the red lights. it seems to me that NZ has an extremly low standard of driving . To many people think that merging means staying right up the ass of the car in front so they can get home 1 minute earlier, this is extremely bad at the mount (I realise its probably worse in auckland CHCH etc) and noone seems to know the indicating rules at roundabouts I mean who the F@#$ thinks that indicating right when your going straight is a good idea .
