Can you tell apart a S/S ae111 and a normal ae111 easily?

Postby kim0663 » Thu Aug 28, 2008 12:34 am

Looking to buy a ae111 and i want a superstrut version as i have become quite fond of them after my ae101.

I want to know if there are definate give aways that tell them apart without the sticker behind the doors and not having to crawl under the car.

like.... chassis code differences ?

i don't know why toyota didn't stick lsd's into ae101s... but theres more reasons thats not worth mentioning here so i won't

What is the gearbox code on your VIN plate?
How did you confirm you don't have an LSD?

Pretty sure only the BZ-R has an LSD?

The ae101 GT-Z has one as well

If the trans code ends in an "A" it will be and open diff. If it's a "C" it'll be LSD.

As for "single spinning". The LSD in a C56 is a torsen type, so in certain circumstances it may seem to be an open diff.

Slightly O/T here, but what is a "BZV" and what is an "auto BZR" ??

Is there somewhere a noob can see pics of s/s vs normal? My girls BZG had had a respray so I have no idea if it's s/s or not, but it sticks like s#$t to a blanket :-)

BZ-V is just another model Levin or Trueno. Looks the same as the BZ-G and BZ-R. As for Auto BZR, it's simply a BZ-R with an auto trans in it
Jack the front of the car up and have a look see. You can't miss S/S, it's got links and $hit everywhere, as apposed to the normal Macpherson strut.

And the struts alone look a little like this:

Thanks for the pics, it has a lower A arm of sorts so it's not a SS model. Still pulls 1.0G round the twisties on T1R street rubber though :-)

Let me restate my question for you. What differentiates a BZ-R from a BZ-G if it isn't the 6 speed gearbox? The engine is the same and the badging can be easily changed around as the japs often like to do.

I'd never heard of a BZ-V either, what varies on those compared to a G or R model? I see the BZ-V listed here, but no auto BZ-R ...

BZR has nicer looking blacked out front lights, nicer rear lights? (or is this just face lift), better interior patterns, carbon look dash trims, and a big fat spoiler on the back and full skirt kit around the car

and this is probably the only notable difference for me... close ratio 6 spd gearbox with lsd
