Sounds eaiser to scrap superstrut and put my non superstrut stuff in.

Does anyone have any non s/s front shocks for sale, and tie rod ends?

Also what exactly do I need to modify to fit my s/s breask to my non s/s hubs?
And is it all bolt bolt bolt. Or can some one shed some light on swapping them over please :D

But half the cost to rethread it.

Dude if you aren't sure, try get someone in the know to give you a hand.. once you get the hub off, you've done the hard part.

Yeha but once i re thread it and put a bigger bolt in its not standard again so back to square one were it failed. But it will be in much better shape then.
Will have a chat to a bloke at work tomorrow who used to be an enigneer and see if he can give me a hand.
Would it be possiable to re thread it wile its still on. Or will that just be a bit*h to do?

Either way, its' gonna have to come off and go to an engineer.

I know Helicoils are a good thing if installed correctly, but I'd be hesitant to use one in a highly loaded part like a cast hub. If it were mine, I'd just retap the thread, and install a bigger bolt.. I doubt the wof man would be too bothered by a slighter larger bolt!

Yeah thats why i'm a little heasiatent. I'm suprised nothing major has happened in the past year. Been up to auckland and back...and we all at some point throw the car around a courner

And then get a bolt exactly the same made up / found and put it in? The bolt pops out the top of the hub in the pick on the drivers side, but the thread dosent start at the top.

If you got an engineer to rethread it, I'm sure he can sort a couple of bolts for you with correct pitch and length, maybe even take in one of the bolts from the other side to get the correct length.

So when removing the hub, how do the tie rod ends and upper part of the s/s suspension come off fromt he hub? Is there a special way of doing it?

And does the half shaft just slide off the center of the hub?

tie rod removal:

Take off the top nut, smack the hub side on to where the tie rod goes through the hub. Hit it hard enough and it will get shocked enough and come loose. Don't hit the tie road anywhere, only the hub itself.

we've had an engineer helicoil threads for engine mounts before without a problem.

if you want to get anal that bolt size will have been deliberately chosen by toyota engineers for a specific shear force etc, and replacing it with a bigger one $&#$% that up.

but ultimately it will probably be cheaper to just tap a bigger thread size and put a bigger bolt in it.

Fixed her today. Tie rod just lifted out but the top ball joint from the suspension was a bit harder, but got it out. The nut on the end of the half shaft was a bi*ch to un do.

Fitted a second hand hub from toyota. and the bearing seems fine.

Took it for a dirve and herd a scraping like a screwed wheel bearing. But it was the break dust gurad on the disk. Bent it back and shes fine. The old one that was on the 2nd hand hub was a bit bent and look liked it hand been scraping to.
