Postby DaVe0r » Tue Sep 09, 2008 6:28 pm

hi guys

the celica is making one hell of a racket going over ANY bump now, got worse after trackday, go fig
sounds like something bashing in the front of the car both sides
im guessing its the ball joints as the car has done 128km now

found ya ball joint part numbers in bits from the superstrut faq...

but what are the expected cost for these from toyota? im going to have to use the visa for this :(
i can do all the work my self so no problem there

cheers dave

Ask Toyota? :P

OK, I'll tell you! I priced the lower arms and Figure 8 arms at around $1200ish last month from Toyota. Not cheap! I'm only needing a Figure 8 arm at the moment so will have a spare rebuilt by Bricon.

You should put the vehicle on a hoist and check the front suspension before you just start replacing components. You need to ascertain if it is the shock absorbers, the bottom arms or the links.
I did a ST205 Celica at work the other day, the customer wanted the shocks and links replaced, I replaced them and it was still knocking like mad, ended up being the LH bottom arm had movement.
Toyota has line priced all their shocks, by memory the shocks are around $200+GST retail each.

I have replaces 2x fig 8s, 2x lower straight arms, all added up to about $750, all Toyota Genuine. Banana arms are expensive, but usually they do not wear out and the bush is replaceable on other end.

have a search on superstrut. Off the top of my head, you have the car on flat ground and then hold the spring perch and try to twist it. It should not have any play.
