Sw20 Mr2 intercooler

Postby Rumad » Thu Sep 18, 2008 1:35 pm

Hi does anyone know the easiest way to remove the intercooler from an sw20 mr2? I'm having a sod of a time with it... My a/c tensioner bolt is seized and the only way i can see to get the cooler out is to release the tension on that pulley to make room to get it past. Tried dropping that side of the engine off its mount to try get the whole engine a lil bit lower and that has helped a wee bit but still not enough to get the core out

Catch 22 situation really cos i need to get the core out so i can get at that seized bolt but need to undo the bolt to get cooler out...ARGH!! lol any advice or help greatly appreciated thanx :)

lolololol

Good ol' MR2 intercooler without dropping the engine.

You can do it, but since your tensioner bolt is stuck, hmmmm. The place it was catching for me was the engine brace.

Try dropping one of the engine mounts on the intercooler side, and let the engine drop down, I remember I had to do that.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Pity cos that means its gonna b off the road just that lil bit longer....AND I MISS BOOST DAMMIT!! Lol

The intercoolers are worth like $10 so get your angle grinder out if you have to, just make sure you disconnect the pipes and block them off, you don't want metal shavings in your car. I even thrown my old one in the bin, nobody wants them.

Or if you're a perfectionlist, just drop the damn engine down, but more trouble than it's worth, angle grinder it imo.

I got mine out without dropping the engine, but in the process the hook on the engine ended up through the core, so thats probably not much help, although if you have more patience with all things automotive than I do, then you may be able to get it out in one piece.

Hey, at least it sounds like a 3s.

Hmm I can't remember mine being that difficult to remove but I guess I had already removed the AC pump a few months prior.
Anyhow I still have mine in one piece if you break your one.

Dynamite Dion , that would work ;)

otherwise - do you want to look at the other setup or something more suitable that we have talked about ?

Glad to hear, 8 Months off the road is nothing. There are guys on this board who had their car off the road from the day I heard about toyspeed till now.
