Top ten stolen cars

The hit list

1. Nissan Silvia

2. Subaru Impreza WRX

3. BMW 325 coupe

4. Nissan 200SX

5. Mazda Lantis

6. Subaru Legacy turbo

7. Subaru Impreza non-turbo

8. Nissan Skyline

9. Subaru Legacy non-turbo

10. Honda Prelude

- NZPA

Okay most of those seem pretty understandable as a target, but a Mazda Lantis coming in at number 5? Seriously?

Surprising lack of rotors.
Mind you, they have a pretty good natural self defense system of attracting skanks and not wanting to start in 9/10 situations.

Yeah quite surprising, but I'm surprised you didn't zero in on the NA Subaru Impreza!!! At least Lantis's are a bit of fun to drive and actually go ok, NA Impreza have NOTHING going for them. A lot of it must be how easy they are to steal or something.

Hah, so that basically covers all Subarus! I'm surprised not to see more Mazdas in there, I remember that they were right up there a couple of years back.. no surprises with the Silvias though, those things are getting taken far too often.

it's funny how they list Nissan 200SX and Nissan Silvia seperately - pretty much the same car anyway. Nissan 200SX just covers one generation while Nissan Silvia can span across 5 or more generations

no Toyotas or Mitsubishis on the list at all - you'ld think Celicas, Supras, Starlet GTs and Evos, GTOs, VR-4s etc would be stolen almost as frequently.

As for the N/A Impreza - probably more stolen for the body panels to be sold off as parts.

Actually, you're right in saying they're the same car.. 200sx has been around just as long as Silvia, and covers the same generation Silvias. Just depended on the different markets.

perhaps AA Insurance dont insure rotaries, or evo's, or their owners choose not to claim insurance on theft of their vehicles.

oh and...

AA Insurance chief executive Chris Curtin wrote:It does not take into account other insurers data, but we are a sizeable insurer of motor vehicles and releasing this information serves as a reminder that people need to take all reasonable steps to prevent theft

Good point would be interesting to see how these results stack up against police or actual results for top stolen cars.

Pretty sure AA does exclude some cars. At least for younger drivers anyway

I have to say I'm quite surprised to see the Lantis in there :?

But I can sit back in the knowledge that the MR2 will never be anywhere near the top of that list :D
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Uhmm.. no. The Silvia name has been around since the 60s. There were four generations before the S13 even came along.

N/A imprezza's have lots going for them, lots of the parts can be used to fix up damaged WRX's..................

Wrong.

Although, both are about as feasible as each other, given the "accuracy" of Wikipedia. :)
