Legalities of ODO / Speedo and all that

Postby MrOizo » Tue Oct 07, 2008 9:43 pm

I have converted from mechanical speedo drive to electronic and the only speedo i have is on a RSM.

Is it a requitrment to have a working Odometer?

Also will the RSM suffice? or would i have to mount the speedo from the car that the electronic spoeedo is from?

Yes you need a working odometer to get a wof, and it doesn't matter where the speedo came from, as long as it's accurate.

dunno about cars, but when I last rode a motorbike, if it has the ability to go over 50km/h, it required one, I would assume the same rule would apply.

Only diesel powered vehicles require an odometer, my bosses petrol patrol hasn't had a working odo for 5 years.

Speed only is fine.
It is a myth that emos are contagious, and you may be infected. However, it is still widely accepted to wash your hands after physical contact

bo

got a copy of the virm page on speedos here if you want it ,
however it doesnt state anything in regards to odo anywhere but as far as I can understand if you have written proof it is impractical to have a speedo repaired you dont have to have one , it also says nothing about having a factory speedo in place rather then an aftermarket one.

come pick it up ill be here at work all day

I suspect this is not correct. Certainly I am unable to find anything to confirm this.

If you can provide paperwork to prove that you are having the speedometer repaired, then you can get a WOF without the speedometer. It says so in the VIRM.
