ST215W GTT - EFI Fuse makes me want to kill myself!

Postby postfach » Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:20 pm

Hey, my flatmate is having an issue with his GTT, the EFI fuse keeps blowing....

At first we thought it was the fuel pump resistor, but removing that and replacing it with a wire didn't solve anything.

Have replaced the fuel pump, tried unplugging O₂ sensor, VSV, idle control valve (seperately and all at the same time), and nothing fixes the problem.

Basically, the fuse will blow as soon as you turn the key to the START position.

Has anyone got any ideas on what might be the problem (obviously something is shorting out, but what?!)

Sounds like it is the fuel pump resistor(circled in blue). It should have a Blue-Black wire going into it from the fuel pump relay (circled in red) and a Blue-Red wire coming out going to the fuel pump.

You should be able to bridge it, it runs in parallel to to 12v circuit that feeds the fuel pump when the fuel pump relay is activated, so I can't see it causing problems.

Try removing all the plugs from the ECU and see if it still blows.

If it doesn't then turn the ignition off and try re-installing them one at a time and test it again until you find out which group of circuits is causing the issue.

If it still blows with the ECU disconnected then the possible causes are limited to a direct short in the circuit opening relay wiring, the o2 sensor heater circuit, the wiring to the Boost control, Fuel pressure, or evap VSV's, or possibly the idle control valve.
