Blacktop, starting/cold running info needed

Postby Maxwedge » Mon Oct 13, 2008 7:15 am

I just fitted a blacktop to an AE82 FXGT. Having never driven a blacktop before I need to know if when first started the engine revs to say 2000 rpm until warm then drops down to 800 or so (like most bluetops)? I am suspecting I have a faulty or blocked ISC (idle speed control valve) as its hard to start plus goes straight to a 800 rpm idle and keeps stopping until warm. Thanks

my girls 111 cold idles at about 1100 then to 800 once up to temp,
take the isc off and spray some carb cleaner into it, let it sit for 5minuts and spray clean again,

i went the full hog and took it apart to clean on the 86 and it made quite a big difference, idle was smooth and it stopped the "almost stalling" when coming off gas problem it use to have,

Man these things piss me off i have to clean it all the time. I reckon it can be solved by fitting a oil catch can to stop the engine breathing into the intake system.
