boost creep or faulty actuator

Postby escortman » Mon Oct 06, 2008 9:53 pm

ok so on friday redone my intercooler piping after the intercooler, made shorter and got rid of leaks, car now feels real quick no lag etc etc holds 10psi fine until about 5-6000rpm and boost jumps to 14-15psi, with the old 16g turbo i never had this problem i could adjust it right down and get 7psi, but with this 1 its slightly open and only goes down to 10psi, im going to try swap the actuators over before i chuck an external on

Was 300hp on 10psi with stock twins, hopefully on similar boost be around 400hp

fitted 16g acutator and it does seem harder to pull than the 20g but when fitted stil at 5000rpm it jumps to 15psi from 8psi, is this just cause wastegate is to small? my exhaust is 2.5in straight through but im gettin a high flow muffler put in on sat so maybe that would solve it hmm

sounds like a wastegate size issue to me... i believe the hi flow muffler would make matters worse rather than better...
cheapest option would be to port and fit oversize wastegate flap.
current cars:
Evo 4 230Kw atw
1971 mini.
79 bugeye 245kw atw.
Evo powered mx5 under construction

ook na il just go external now then i thought the muffler would help to restrict the turbo a little more

Don't mitsi turbo's tend to suffer from boost creep?

Actuators are really easy to test with an air compressor.

it never used to on 16g well it did but not by this much maybe 2psi max, i guess the extra power of 20g is to much for internal
