Shop near Levin to paint Series 1 Supra headlights black

Hi, can anyone tell me if there are any shops around levin that would be able to take my headlights apart to paint them black? I was thinking Topglass or a similar place would be able to do it, also would anyone know if they could reproduce the plastic lens in glass perfectly (or near enough)

And also idea's on how much it would cost, both for the painting and lens re-producing?

I'm probably better taking them in, but I can't be bothered taking the light out just to get a quote, and I can't DD it with no headlights.

Edit: Just realised Topglass probably doesn't do painting, where else could I take them, I know they could probably reproduce the lenses, but I don;t know about the painting of the housing

I think for the cost of reproducing the lenses in glass you could probably buy several sets of facelift headlights 8O
As for pulling them apart and painting them, try Colling & Gray. They're not cheap, but they're good.

You sure your lights can be taken apart?

I wanted to get my rear lights 'modified' but got told they are sealed and don't come apart. Seems logical to glue it all together though to prevent leaks.

Yeah, the lights can be pulled apart, a lot of people have done it to re-paint them themselves, I've never heard of the rear lights being pulled apart to do anything with though.

I've tried it myself but couldn't get them apart so gave up lol.

The series 2 headlights are good, but extremely expensive, what about some other material, lexan or perspex for the lenses? It's just the plastic used yellows over time, and mine are already extremley yellow, I'm trying to get something that always looks near-new, I know the Euro-spec lights have glass, but they only come in chrome, and are just as, if not more expensive than the Series 2 headlights anyway

I think its brasso polish that will get rid of the yellow, was that or autosol..... polish them up and they go clear again.

Easy as. some say to put them in the oven. the more sensible ones will use a heat gun :)

i tried a heat gun on mine, the heat is too focused, mine were just heating and cooling too quick to get them apart evenly, i think this is why people use the oven, because it evenly heats everything, making them much easier to pull apart, or maybe i just suck??

I dunno about that, a heat gun gets pretty hot, wouldn't be hard to mess up your lights, at least with an oven you can control the temperature pretty accurately.

I've already tried polished, and also wetsanding (2000 grit) + polishing

Mothers Mag Cleaner = top sh1t for removing yellowing from lens's. The fact that you've used sandpaper on them, means it could be all over rover.

Na, after wetsanding with at least 2000 grit, you ploish and they coome out like new - if you don't have yellowing, I might try it again, maybe the yellow is a little bit deeper, as most people say it's usually only on the outside.

is there no dither pattern on the outer plastic lense? if there is, you'll have no chance to reproduce it in glass - that pattern is what keeps the light beam aligned properly.

i've found that there's alnd ot of control with a heat gun.
sweeping left to right there shouldnt be any problems.
I guess you only know by doing and each will have their preffered methods huh. might try the over trick again one day when i need to.
