Anyone built a shiftlight?

Postby 85AW20v » Thu Oct 16, 2008 10:13 pm

It would be good to have one in the racecar so I don't keep hitting the limiter especially off the start. Would be good to have 2 stages to it, one LED coming on 3-400 revs before the other.

It's an ST 20v in the AW if that makes any difference. And I don't know anything about electronics but can follow instructions..... :?
See ya

Jaycar does a pretty good kit.

I borrowed one off gadget for a while... was a 3 stage one - all lights were set-able

Cant seem to find it at the moment though :/

i built the one Oizo is talking about from jaycar, was the 'Rev Limiter/Gear Shift Indicator Kit' IIRC. I Used superbright LED's instead of the incandescant globes the pack comes with. takes a couple of hours soldering all the bits together

Neo also runs the same kit in his race car. Silvertop powered.

not to mention another kit in the road car as well :)

Shift light kits in plastic lunch boxes FTW

Only issue I find with this is if you accelerate fast thee lights come on earlier than they would if you accelerate slower (100 - 400 rpm faster if you in neutral reving the engine)

So you really need to set it as you drive down the road.

I cant find the right kit, seems to be discontinued

theres plenty around.. i think for mine, i ended up dismantling a monster tacho, that came with a shiftlight, and using the shiflight assembly out of that.

the only reason i went to that much effort though, was because i got the tacho cheap as.
