4AGE & T50 conversion into Ke20

Postby tsoob » Tue Oct 21, 2008 5:39 pm

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone could answer if T50's ever came out with a cable bellhousing or fork option instead of hydraulic? Or if there's a way to make them run a cable setup. I thought I remembered someone mentioning it once and it would be easier than converting the car to hydraulic.

Yep, older 20 spline T50's came with a cable clutch, but they were behind K motors. I've seen someone cut a hole in a hydro bellhousing to run a cable clutch though.

they can definitely be converted to cable clutch, i've heard of it quite often (never seen a setup to know how its done though).

don't think they came out factory though

easy as, you can still get all the stuff brand new from repco. as long as you have the clutch fork etc, just get an ae86 slave + master cylinder from bnt / repco or where ever, mount it up and run a couple of lines and attach the master cylinder to the clutch pedal.

only problem is doing it in ke20s, theres stuff all room

if you want to use hydralic clutch you will have to modify pedal box and mount the clutch master cyl on the firewall. did this conversion to my ke30, I modified my pedal box abit but its not as good as id like it but works ok. can send you pics if you want. Do ke20's have threads sticking out the firewall (but no hole) for a clutch master cyl like my ke30 did???

Make sure you get it sorted before putting the engine in otherwise you dont have room to work on firewall without pulling intake mani off.

could talk about this more but can't be bothered at the moment :P

not much room on firewall due to brake master sitting so close. couple spots you can put it.. one is the usual spot like this. i put another piece of panel steel under it so the firewall is flat. need to drill a hole in clutch pedal and 3 holes in firewall to mount clutch master. fitting a clutch pedal box from a later car would be a better setup than without one though.

second place is like the following. set this up by reversing the std clutch pedal arm and i think welding it in position so it faces upwards on the accelerater cable side of pedal box. (push instead of pull).

converting t50 to cable would be less work me thinking? need to weld a threaded boss onto passenger side of bellhousing for a k40/k50 type clutch fork to pivot on.
or could make a bracket on outside of bellhousing that connects to end of clutch cable and holds it solid so that the cable outer sheath connects to clutch fork instead.
